JKGCWF convenes crucial meeting of Kashmir valley at Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Feb 13: Jammu and Kashmir General Category Welfare Forum (JKGCWF) on Sunday held a crucial meeting of its delegates who had come from different parts of Kashmir valley.

The meeting that took place in Srinagar resolved to take forward its agenda of implementation of Supreme Court rulings on reservations and review of backward areas in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the meeting, Chairman JKGCWF, Syed Shameem Bukhari observed that the forum is not against any section of the society but for the welfare of people of Jammu and Kashmir irrespective of their religion, caste, creed or gender.

“We want the government to facilitate the students and job aspirants of economically weaker sections of the society in terms of providing them the hostel, tuition, coaching and other benefits so as to provide them a level playing field in competitive examinations. But these benefits should not be compounded by giving them reservations in academics or for competition in seeking jobs. That amounts to bumping off the merit,” Bukhari remarked.

He added that the government of J&K should also review the developmental indices of the areas that fall under RBA and ALC categories so that a decision is taken on continuation of reservation in those areas in light of the Supreme Court rulings passed from time to time.

Speaking on the occasion, Farooq Ahmad Mir Vice President, Nisar-ul-Kareem chief Spokesman G.M Akhoon Chief Advisor gave introductory remarks and dwelled on the functioning of the JKGCWF thereby highlighting the achievements made sofar since the establishment of the organization.

In his concluding remarks, Aftab Andrabi, Chief Patron of JKGCWF, demanded that the General Administration Department of Government of Jammu and Kashmir should implement its order number 893-JK (GAD) of 2022 dated 02-08-2022 on provisions of J&K Reservation Act and ensure that the officers and officials who are in government services by virtue of reservation clauses (RBA/ALC) are posted in their parent areas for seven years.

The meeting was also addressed by General Secretary Peerzada Ghulam Mohi-u-Din Reyaz Ahmad Mir district president Srinagar, Mohammad Shafi Wani district president Pulwama, Zahoor Ahmad Qadri district president Baramulla, Mohammad Muzaffar district president Bandipora, Ghulam Nabi district president Kupwara, A.R Kak, Mohammad Ashraf Dar, Basharat Hafiz, Mohammad Jaffar Rather, Adil Ramzan, Reyaz Ahmad Bhat, Nazir Ahmad Ganaie and others .
