SRINAGAR, Nov 04: During the inaugural session of the Legislative Assembly on Monday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized his administration’s commitment to pursue for restoration of full statehood and the constitutional rights associated with it for the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir.

In his remarks, as per Kashmir Despatch team present in the session, LG Sinha remarked, “Restoring statehood would honor the trust shown by the people of Jammu and Kashmir in our country’s democratic framework.” He called for collaborative efforts from all parties involved in supporting his government’s initiatives to meet the expectations of the population.

Acknowledging the impressive voter turnout, Sinha attributed this trend to the community’s strong belief in democratic participation. “The elevated voter engagement, especially from areas historically affected by separatist sentiments, demonstrates that the residents of Jammu and Kashmir view elections as a platform for expressing their views and desires. The completion of the electoral process marks a significant milestone in the region’s history,” he stated.

Sinha announced that his government would provide 200 units of electricity free of charge to residents, addressing concerns stemming from the ‘smart PDD’ project that raised fears of inflated electricity bills.

He noted the Prime Minister’s repeated emphasis on restoring statehood, which has reignited hope and assurance among the populace. The recent unanimous resolution by the Jammu and Kashmir Council of Ministers advocating for the prompt restoration of statehood reflects the collective aspirations of the elected officials, he explained.

LG Sinha’s address aligned with the ruling National Conference’s perspective. He highlighted that the region’s abundant natural resources would be developed sustainably, considering ecological preservation. “Equitable treatment and development for all communities and regions within J&K are imperative for fostering inclusive growth,” he stated.

Moreover, he informed that the J&K Industrial Policy for the years 2021-2030 has been established to attract private investment and enhance the industrial landscape. “A new Central Sector initiative amounting to Rs 28,400 crores has been devised to promote new investments, and we plan to create 46 new industrial estates equipped with modern amenities to support industry and job creation,” he further added.
