Amid significant discussions about the proposed liquor ban in Jammu and Kashmir—particularly following the introduction of a bill by a PDP politician from North Kashmir seeking a complete ban on the sale of alcohol—support for the ban has emerged from various parties in the assembly. However, shedding further light on this issue, National Conference Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq stated that Kashmir is a tourist destination and that many Arab countries permit alcohol; thus, banning it could significantly impact tourism.

In a video clip accessed by Kashmir Despatch, Tanvir Sadiq, responding to the liquor ban, emphasized that Kashmir is a tourist state and that similar practices exist in many Arab countries. He mentioned the importance of involving all stakeholders, especially travel agents, in these discussions.

He expressed that if a liquor ban is enforced, it is crucial to carefully consider its effects on tourists. He acknowledged that while there is overall opposition to the ban, all factors must be taken into account.
