J&K to get clean plant center, Tissue culture labs: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Srinagar, July 04 : Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday announced that the Government of India will set up a Clean Plant Center and tissue culture labs in Kashmir to boost high-quality horticulture.

“We will prepare world-class, disease-free plants like almonds and walnuts to help farmers grow the best varieties,” Chauhan said while speaking to reporters at SKUAST-K.

Chouhan said that clean Plant center will be established in Kashmir to provide farmers with high-quality, disease-free planting material. “Farmers need good plants like almonds and walnuts which must be healthy. In the Clean Plant Center, we will prepare the best varieties in the world,” he said, adding that private nurseries will also receive subsidies and tissue culture labs will be set up.

Speaking about rural housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, chouhan said that a survey of 5 lakh people has already been completed. “No poor person will remain homeless in Jammu and Kashmir. These people will be verified and given houses,” he said.

He said that the Government of India is committed to transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a hub of agriculture and rural development, with several key initiatives already underway.

Chouhan, who is currently visiting Srinagar, said he has been among the people and felt the deep love and warmth they share. “The cool breeze, the smell of the soil, the natural beauty, and most of all, the love in the eyes of the people make Kashmir the crown jewel of India and the heaven of the world,” he said.

The Union Minister added that both he and the Prime Minister are working hand-in-hand to bring rapid development to Jammu and Kashmir. “The Prime Minister and I have decided that Kashmir should be the hub of agriculture and rural development,” he added.(KNS)
