SRINAGAR, Dec 5: In response to a news story published by this newspaper on 20-10-2020, titled “Ineligible JKEDI founding member heads CWE-Kashmir”, Dr. Naila Khanday, Faculty JKEDI has claimed that allegations against her are “concocted, offensive and devoid of any logic and rationale.”
In a written statement submitted by her to the Kashmir Despatch along with relevant annexures, Khanday has claimed, “A false narrative has been built to defame my image and integrity by misusing the unrelated online content of my old writ petition of 2007 Vs the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora and vindictively relating it with my appointment at JKEDI in 2005.”
Naila has claimed that the essential qualifications required for the post of Assistant Faculty was Master’s Degree with 55% marks in the Discipline of Management (with specialization in Financial Management, Industrial Management, Marketing Management and Human Resource Development), Economics, Statistics and Sociology.
“I am holding a two years degree in Masters in Personnel Management (MPM) from Bharati Vidyapeeth Institute of Management and Research (BVIMR) New Delhi, University of Pune in first division with 64.8% marks under seat No. 1599; year April 2003 duly verified by the institute from the concerned University. Since my appointment in 2005 till date, the institute (JKEDI) has never asked me for any Equivalence Certificate, nor any formal order has ever been issued by the authorities of the institute for submitting the same from me. Even then, a copy of the Equivalence Certificate for Masters in Personnel Management (MPM) Degree with MBA-HR vide No: F. No. Eqvi./AB/Gen.Corr. (73)/2007-08; dated: 01-05-2008 issued by the Competent Authority AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) is lying in my personal file at JKEDI, Head Office for record purposes,” Naila has said in her statement.
She further says that she was selected and joined for the pursuit of research leading to the award of Ph. D degree with the Department of Management Studies, University of Kashmir in January 2004. “The then Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir allowed me to submit my Ph. D. thesis subject to the condition that I put in the remaining residency period of 04 months on regular basis (whole time) in the Department of Management Studies, University of Kashmir vide Order No: F(BORS-Mgt Stud)/Acad/KU/09/535; dated 31-03-2009 issued by Assistant Registrar (Academic) after condoning some residency period in the meeting of Board of Research Studies (BORS).
“Following the directions of the University authorities, I immediately applied for the leave at JKEDI clearly stating the purpose of the leave applied for, and accordingly, I was granted 04 months leave w.e.f. 01-05-2009 vide Order No. EDI-16 of 2009; dated 01-05-2009 extended further by 20 days w.e.f. 01-09-2009 vide Order No. EDI-112 of 2009; dated 31-08-2009. Prior to these leaves, I also availed 11 days leave without pay with station leaving permission for conducting research survey and collecting primary data for my Ph. D. thesis from outside the state w.e.f. 24-09-2007 to 04-10-2007 vide Order No. EDI-89 of 2007; Dated: 18-09-2007. Rest of the residency period was fulfilled prior to my appointment in JKEDI,” reads her statement.
Naila said that after fulfilling her residency and all other pre and post-thesis submission formalities, she was eventually awarded with degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in the subject of Management Studies by the University of Kashmir in March 2010 through the Business School.
In response to her elevation to the next post in the year 2017, Naila in her statement has claimed that despite being the senior most faculty member of the institute appointed in 2005, she got the first promotion after a huge gap of 12 years in 2017 after qualifying the written test and interview on All India basis through open competition. “Being the senior most faculty member and having the experience of more than 17 years in hand, I have been posted as In-charge, Centre for Women Entrepreneurship- Kashmir (CWE-K) by the Competent Authority,” Naila’s clarification statement reads further.
