J&K’s Traffic Dept collects whopping Rs 7 Cr from traffic violators since Jan this year

Srinagar, Apr 20 : Jammu and Kashmir’s Traffic department has collected a whopping sum of over Rs 7 crores from the traffic rule violators in just past four months across the UT.

According to the official figures, accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Traffic City Srinagar, Traffic City Jammu, Traffic Police Rural Kashmir and Traffic Police National Highway have collected a total fine of Rs 7,81, 53, 240 from January 1 2022- April 18 , 2022, the first on account of visible offences like alteration of vehicle and autos with defective meters besides other fines.

The data also reveals that a total of 2,49,432 challans were registered against persons violating the traffic rules, out of them most were reported in the month of March, when 80,270 traffic violators were challaned.

“In January, 43,028 challans were registered in Jammu Kashmir, 71356 in February and 54,778 in the first 18 days of April,” the figures read. “In Jammu & Kashmir, the highest amount in the form of fine was collected in the month of March at Rs 2,57,97 800. In the first 18 days of April, a fine of Rs1,16, 67, 260 from traffic rule violators was recovered

A traffic official said that the traffic department in Jammu & Kashmir is running awareness campaigns on streets, in colleges and several other places of public importance to create awareness among the locals to avoid traffic violation.

He said that the department in the recent years has tried to improve its ways of imposing fine. “Our emphasis is clearly on e-chalans so that transparency is promoted,” he said.

ADGP Traffic J&K, T. Namgyal told KNO that the most of the challans registered are against those committing “visible offences.” “Traffic scenario has largely improved across UT,” he said—(KNO)
