Srinagar, May 05: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti stated that Kashmiris do not support bloodshed, as the people of the region are peace-loving.
During her visit to Pahalgam, Mehbooba Mufti as per Kashmir Despatch said that this time, the people of Kashmir have demonstrated that they stand against violence and do not wish to see bloodshed. “They are peace lovers,” she emphasized.
She appealed to the Government of India and the Home Minister to take strict action against those involved in the Pahalgam terror attack.
Mehbooba expressed solidarity with the victims, stating that all of Kashmir, like the rest of the country, is in shock over the incident. However, she urged that innocent Kashmiris should not be unnecessarily targeted.
Praising the tourists who have returned to Pahalgam despite the recent attack, she said, “They are showing great courage by coming from all corners of India to Kashmir. The government must ensure their safety so they can stay peacefully.”
She added that tourists returning to the valley, particularly Pahalgam, amid the crisis should not face any inconvenience. “They deserve a secure environment, and markets in Pahalgam and its outskirts should remain open for them. Locals, too, should not be harassed, as they have stood with their fellow countrymen, condemned the attack, and continue to show solidarity.”
Mehbooba also called for reinforced security in Pahalgam to ensure a safer environment for tourists.
She appealed to the Home Minister to announce a relief package for the pony wallas (local horsemen), who suffered significant losses during the peak season. “With the Amarnath Yatra approaching, they deserve some assistance,” she said.
Mehbooba further stated that since Kashmiris have openly rejected terrorism and violence for the first time, it is now the responsibility of the country to support them in return.
“Kashmiris are not terrorists; they are ordinary people who want to work hand in hand with the government for peace, prosperity, and development. Do not label them as terrorists,” she asserted.
