Killing of Policemen Evokes Widespread Condemnation

Srinagar, February 19: Political parties in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday condemned the killing of two policemen in Srinagar’s Bhagat area, saying violence has no place in a civilised society.

Two former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and heads of all political parties condemned the attack.

“Condemning the killing of two policemen in the Baghat attack. My heart goes out to their families & loved ones. This cycle of violence serves no cause & begets only misery” Mehbooba Mufti tweeted.

On the other hand former CM Omer Abdullah condemned the attack in the harshest words.

“Two police personnel have reportedly been killed in an attack in Srinagar today. I condemn this act of militant violence & send my condolences to the families of these brave men” Omer Abdullah twèeted.

In a statement issued to Kashmir Despatch, Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari termed the attack as barbaric and inhuman. “Violence is not a solution but a huge impediment in peace and progress of any society. In any of its manifestations, violent extremism is unacceptable, regardless of political, ideological or religious motivations,” Bukhari added.

He observed that it is highly unfortunate and heart-wrenching that Kashmir continues to lose precious lives to senseless violence which has only aggravated the sufferings of the people over the years.

“The attackers have no respect for human lives and are only adding to the tragedies of the ill-fated families which must be condemned by one and all,” he added, while extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Bukhari prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and courage to their families to bear this irretrievable loss.

JKPCC while condemned the killing of two police personnel said the mindless attack has cost two more precious lives of police personnel, which was very anguishing and unfortunate.

JKPCC also condemned the killing of SPO  namely Altaf Ahmad during Berwah encounter leaving another cop injured and expressed serious concern over the current situation in valley.

The killing of police personnel were highly condemnable and shameful act committed by the militants, JKPCC added and expressed solidarity with the family of slain police personnel and  prayed for their courage to bear this irreparable loss.

JKPCC also prayed for eternal peace to slain cops and speedy recovery of injured cop.

Chairman People’s Democratic Front (PDF) Hakeem Yaseen while condemning killing of two police men in Bhagat Barzulla in uptown srinagar said that the deceased were on duty to earn livelihood for thier children. He said senseless killings of human beings, both civilians as well as police men, due to prevailing socio-political uncertainty in jammu and kashmir was most inhuman and have filled only graveyards besides bringing painful miseries and grief to the bereaved families and the society as a whole.

Hakeem Yaseen has conveyed sympathies with the bereaved families of killed police men and prayed for peace to their departed souls.

Hakeem Yaseen has also condemned murderous assault on the son of a civilian Dhaba owner in Durganaag sonawar last evening , leaving him critically injured.He has prayed for his early recovery.

BJP J&K spokesman Altaf Thakur strongly condemned the killing of two unarmed policemen at Baghat, Barzullah stating that there is no place for such cowardly attacks and that the attackers must be brought to book.

The killing of two policemen in Baghat area of Srinagar is highly condemnable and unfortunate. Violence has no place in a civilized society. There is an urgent need to put an end to these killings said CPI(M) and expresses heartfelt sympathies with the families of the slain policemen.

Awami National conference Khalida Shah and senior vice President Muzaffer shah condemned the killing of two policemen in Baghat area of Srinagar.

They said that this is highly condemnable and painful incident and totally an act of cowardice and the involvers should be punished.

“May the departed souls rest in peace and give fortitude to the grief stricken families to endure these irreparable losses”,they added.

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference terming the attack reprehensible saying such dastardly acts of violence serve no cause and begets vicious cycle of misery.

 I strongly condemn the dastardly act, such senseless acts serve no cause, said Party General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar while condemning the killing of two policemen. “My thoughts and prayers are with the families of Suhail Ahmed and Mohammad Yusuf in this hour of grief. There is no place for such senseless acts in an emancipated world.   The dastardly killings on the high-security airport road in itself raise the question mark on the security situation in Kashmir. I on behalf of my party express solidarity with the bereaved and pray for peace to the slain policemen,” he added.
