KVK-Gurez concluded ICAR 95th Foundation cum Technology Day celebrations

Inaugurated by Chief Justice of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh UTs, Justice N. K. Singh, the three days long event w.e.f July 16-18, commemorating with the 95th ICAR Foundation Day concluded today at the Dak Bunglow, Dawar-Gurez. DDC Gurez Ms. Tasleema Begum was the chief guest at the concluding day.

Many public representatives, members of the various Self Help Groups formed under NRLM, youths, farmers and farm women of the region also participated in this three days event.

Giving an overview of the whole programme, Dr. Bilal A. Bhat, Head KVK-Gurez told the media personnel that for the last three days KVK-Gurez has been among the farming community of this valley displaying various technologies and products, sensitizing youths, farmers and farm women on various agriculture and allied sectors related programmes.

All the three blocks of Gurez have been covered during this three days event.

Highlighting the relevance of the programme Dr. Parveen Kumar, SMS (Ag. Extension) explained that Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) celebrates July 16 every year as Foundation Day.

This year ICAR decided to celebrate its Foundation Day as Technology Day to showcase different technologies, innovations, products and various programmes related to agriculture and allied sectors to the farming community all across the country.

The Technology Day celebrations started on July 16 and culminated on July 18. KVKs all across the country are celebrating this event by organizing various exhibitions displaying various technologies and products. Dr. Shahnawaz Dar Entomologist at KVK-Gurez while interacting with the youth during the three days spoke on the favourable climate and flora of the region conducive to honey bee rearing.

He called upon the youths to take up apiculture as a potential source of income and employment generation.

Dr. Bhat further briefed the chief guests and participants about various initiatives of KVK-Gurez including tie up with PepsiCo for marketing support to potato growers, revival of millets and heritage crops like Kala Zeera, Rajmash and local pea. Mr. Sikandar an ex teacher and a progressive farmer from Markoot village who participated in today’s concluding event appreciated the role of KVK-Gurez towards socio-economic upliftment of the farmers of this region.

All the participants appreciated the endaveour of KVK-Gurez and asked for such type of programmes in the future also.
