Leh,Oct 17: LAHDC in collaboration with the Tashi Rabgais Memorial Trust, celebrated the second annual Ladakh Literature Day. Established in 2022, this event aims to promote literature and provide a platform for prominent authors.
The celebration was graced by Chief Guest Tsering Angchuk and Guest of Honor Stanzin Chosphel. This year, the prestigious Literature Award was presented to Professor Jamyang Gyalson. The event was particularly meaningful as it commemorated the birth anniversary of the late Tashi Rabgais.
Professor Jamyang Gyalson, a distinguished scholar with a PhD in Tantra and Buddhist Philosophy, has made significant contributions to the fields of social issues and Ladakh’s history. As a retired professor from CIBS, he has been instrumental in promoting the Bhoti language and literature. Renowned for his extensive research, Dr. Gyalson has authored approximately 20 books, covering a wide range of topics, including grammar, poetry, and the history of Buddhist monasteries, which he also edited. He has represented Ladakhi literary culture on various platforms, further solidifying his status as a prominent figure in his field.
As part of the celebrations, the Tsom Yarsket scheme saw the release of two significant books, alongside the Ladakh Cultural Academy’s publication of another two works.
In honor of his legacy, the Tashi Rabgais Memorial Trust was established in 2021, inspired by the dedication of many well wishers and supporters. The Trust aims to promote and preserve the traditional arts, culture, and languages of Ladakh, while also fostering literary growth among the younger generation of authors.
In a bid to encourage a wider readership, the Tashi Rabgais Memorial Trust presented three revised and reprinted works of the late Shri Tashi Rabgais: Ladakh, Tradition and Culture,Sustainable Spirituality in Buddhism and คลิตริฐ79559ag (Poems and Songs).
Scholarly papers highlighting the life and contributions of Tashi Rabgais were presented by distinguished academics including Professor Lobzang Tsewang, Gyen Thupstan Paldan, Dr. Tsewang Yangzes, Dr. Tsewang Gyalson, and Dr. Konchok Gyatso.
Additionally, two new literary works were introduced ,Ning gi rBalabs Part 1 by Thinles Stanzin Chushul, a collection of poems reflecting local knowledge, Ladakhi values, and cultural pride, written during his time at CIBS and Kopong – History of Kopong and its Playing Techniques by Angdu Dorjey Khigu, which serves as a comprehensive guide to reviving folk songs through the musical instrument Kopong.
Ladakh Literature Day continues to be a vital platform for honoring and preserving the rich literary heritage of Ladakh, fostering a love for literature among its people.
