Sopore, Feb 09 : The Sopore Municipal Council, responsible for maintaining the sanitation of the town is without a full-fledged president after it’s President Sopore Abdul Ahad was removed from the post after he lost a no-confidence motion.
The charge of the president is lying vacant since January 2021, with councilors of the town appealing Executive Officer MC Sopore for holding the elections for the post of president.
Despite holding ULB elections by the UT government on time and people electing their favorite councilors for the development of the town and proper management of resources, the MC Sopore is still without a head who could have managed the town in a proper way.
“It is unfortunate that a key department like MC Sopore is without a full-fledged president. It is a very important department concerning the entire public. You just cannot afford to take its affairs lightly,” few elected councilors from Sopore told Kashmir Despatch.
They claimed that some officials in the administration are delaying the process of election for reasons unknown.
Executiver Officer Municipal Council Sopore, Sameer Jan told Kashmir Despatch that election will be held once there are orders from District administration.
“We will hold a meet very soon with elected councilors and discuss the problems of the town,” Jan added.
