Mercury rise above sub-zero level across Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 20 : Amid forecast for wet weather next week, the minimum temperatures increased above sub-zero level across Kashmir Valley, officials said on Saturday.

A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 3.6°C against minus 0.2°C on the previous night. It was 2.7°C above the normal for this time of the year, the official said.

Qazigund, the gateway town of J&K, recorded a low of 1.0°C against minus 1.5°C on the previous night.
The mercury settled at 1.2°C at Pahalgam against minus 4.5°C on the earlier night in the world-famous tourist resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 1.8°C against minus 0.9°C on the previous night, he said.
The minimum temperature settled at 1.2°C in Kupwara against minus 2.3°C on the previous night while Gulmarg, the world-famous skiing resort, recorded a low of 0.0°C against minus 3.0°C on the earlier night, he said.

The weatherman has forecast a wet spell in wake of a disturbance likely to affect J&K and Ladakh during February 22 evening to February 27. “During this period, light to moderate rain/snowfall is likely mainly on 22nd (night), 23rd, 26th and 27th February in Kashmir region,” the official said.
