Shopian, Sep 11 : Unknown persons have destroyed a high-density apple orchard here in south Kashmir’s Shopian district during the intervening night.
Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said that on the intervening night of 10th -11th September, some unknown individuals cut down nearly 250 plants of high density in an orchard of Mohammed Shafi Bhat in Awind , Shopian.
The owner of the orchard said that The orchard was a vital source of income for us. We had taken out loan from the bank to develop it. This loss is a severe economic setback
“This is not just an attack on his trees; it’s an assault on his dreams and livelihood. Years of hard work and dedication have been wiped out in a single night, a local said.
The orchard owners are now seeking compensation from the government and urging the District administration Shopian to take immediate action to identify the miscreants.
