No end to hollow claims

Date:

It is every year that people of Kashmir are promised stars and moon by its so-called competent administration. Be it winter or the holy month of Ramadhan, the administration leaves no stone unturned to get the minutes of their so-called preparedness meetings disseminated to the people through print and electronic media.

However, come winter or Ramadhan, and the tall promises of the administration start falling flat on the ground. This Ramadhan we witnessed a number of protests staged by the people for want of drinking water. Similarly, be it at Iftar or Sehri time, the unscheduled power cuts are adding to the frustration among people across Kashmir.

The reasons behind these pesky power cuts hardly matter. The administration is responsible for providing a hassle free supply of essential services that too during the peak time when the load is high. It is none of the faults of general public who expect that their government to deliver as per its promises made prior to this month or for that matter the winter.

On the one hand the administration takes no break in propagating its achievements especially vis-à-vis making Srinagar a smart city and on the other there is no thaw in complaints of the general public with regard to the problems being faced by them on account of mal administration.

It is not about the Srinagar city alone, but the rural areas are facing the worst of the bad governance in almost every sector. Be it potable water, power supply, education or health infrastructure—rural Kashmir is the worst hit of the apathetic attitude of the administration that unfortunately considers itself unaccountable in absence of an elected government in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lt. Governor must take a serious note of the lapses and gaps in the promises made by the administration ahead of these crucial times and the delivery on the ground.
