Non-Locals Leaving Kashmir Baseless : SSP Ganderbal

Date:

Suhail Khan

Ganderbal, Oct 22: The police in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have rebutted claims that non-locals are being asked to leave Kashmir, labeling the reports as baseless.

Senior Superintendent of Police Wasim Qadir as per Kashmir Despatch stated that recent social media posts alleging that non-local laborers are being pressured to depart are entirely unfounded. He emphasized that the Jammu and Kashmir Police is committed to maintaining security and ensuring a sense of safety for everyone who intends to earn a livelihood in the region.

This response follows comments from former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti, who expressed concern in a post on X, stating, “After the barbaric attack at Sonamarg, there are reports that the local administration is pressuring non-local laborers to leave the valley immediately. While I understand their understandable sense of panic, asking them to leave in this manner is not a solution. It will only create more difficulties and sends a very bad message to the country. Jammu and Kashmir recently witnessed peaceful, terror-free elections, and this knee-jerk reaction will only prove otherwise. It might also incite outrage against Kashmiris working and studying in other states. I request Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah and LG @manojsinha_ to intervene and at least give them enough time.”

Notably, the reaction comes after the tragic killing of a doctor and six laborers when terrorists attacked a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway in Ganderbal district on Sunday.
