Normalcy back in Kashmir after three day shutdown call over Pulwama killings

Date:

Srinagar, Dec 18 : Life returned to normal in Kashmir valley on Tuesday after three days of shutdown against the civilian killings in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district over the weekend.

The commercial hub of Srinagar city witnessed the normal rush of shoppers today. Similar reports were received from other district headquarters of the valley.

The public and private traffic was back on the roads while the government and private offices resumed their routine functioning.

On Saturday, seven civilians were killed after the government forces opened fire on protesters following a gunfight that left three militants and a soldier dead.

Soon after the civilian killings, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) — an amalgam of pro-freedom leadership — called for three-day shutdown and mourning to protest against the civilian killings.

On Monday, police foiled the proposed march of the JRL to the army’s headquarters in Srinagar by imposing strict restrictions around the venue and elsewhere.
While the government forces had sealed areas leading to the army’s 15 corps headquarters from Sunday evening itself, top resistance leaders Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik were barred from marching towards the venue Monday.
