Srinagar, April 04 ; In a bid to revolutionize travel through the Himalayas, Northern Railways unveiled a luxury Vistadome train service connecting Budgam and Banihal, promising passengers an immersive journey through Kashmir’s iconic landscapes.
The seasonal service, running from April 5 to June 3, is designed to cater to surging tourist demand while offering locals a premium transit option.
A Window to the Himalayas
The star attraction of the special train is its state-of-the-art Vistadome coach, equipped with wraparound glass ceilings, panoramic windows, and rotating seats to maximize views of snow-capped peaks, lush valleys, and winding rivers. Standard coaches will also be available for regular commuters.
Schedule & Route
Operating six days a week (excluding Fridays), the train will make 52 round trips. Departing Budgam at 8:35 AM, it will stop at Srinagar, Awantipora, Anantnag, and Qazigund before arriving in Banihal by 10:40 AM. The return journey begins at 6:40 PM from Banihal, reaching Budgam by 8:20 PM.
Boosting Tourism & Connectivity
Railway officials emphasized the dual purpose of the service: easing congestion on highways and positioning Kashmir as a year-round destination. “This isn’t just a train ride—it’s a curated experience,” said a spokesperson. “The Vistadome allows travelers to witness Kashmir’s beauty without compromising comfort, whether they’re a tourist or a daily commuter.”
Strategic Timing
The launch coincides with Kashmir’s spring bloom, when orchards and meadows burst into color, and ahead of the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage season. Analysts predict the service could reduce road traffic by 15-20% on key routes.
Tickets & Accessibility
Fares for the Vistadome coach are expected to be 20-25% higher than standard classes, with bookings available via IRCTC and counter reservations. Officials confirmed enhanced security measures and disability-friendly amenities onboard.
