One Day National Conference on Statistics for All held at Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-K

One Day National Conference on Statistics for All in honour of Professor P.C.Mahalanobis was Organized by Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil Ganderbal, SKUAST-K on 11th July, 2023. In the conference more than 100 researchers participated from across the country and good number of scholars presented their papers. Dignitaries like Prof. (Dr.) D.S Hooda, Former PVC, Kurukshetra University, Haryana, Professor (Dr.) Aquil Ahmed, Chairman Dept of Statistics and O.R., A.M.U., Aligarh, Prof. (Dr.) Rashmi Bhardwaj, Indraprastha University, Dwarka, New Delhi participated in the conference.

During the Inaugural session, Prof.(Dr.) Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Head, Division of Social Sciences, FoFy (Organizer), SKUAST-K gave the overview of the conference and said that the objective of the conference is to provide a platform to the researchers to learn about the modern tools of Statistics and emerging techniques used these days with advancement in computing facilities. Professor (Dr.) Farooz Ahmad Bhat, Dean, FoFy inaugurated the Conference and delivered the welcome address. Dr. Bhat highlighted the importance of data and use of statistics in day to day life and thanked the Honble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K for his guidance and funding of the programme under NAHEP. Professor (Dr.)Aquil Ahmed, as key note speaker discussed in detail about the importance of Statistics and importance of this day. Prof D.S Hooda, was the Guest of Honour for the day and explained in detail about the life and contribution of Professor P.C.Mahalanobis. Dr. Shabir A. Bangroo, Co-PI NAHEP was also present as special guest in the inaugural session. In the inaugural session two new books were released one entitled Statistical Techniques in Research and Development by Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat and second entitled Illustrated Dictionary of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics by Dr. Mohd Ashraf Rather & others. Prof. (Dr.) Adnan Abubakr, Head, Division of AEM (Co-organiser) presented vote of thanks.

The Inaugural session was followed by the Technical Sessions immediately. In Session-I, Prof. Rashmi Bhardwaj, was the lead speaker who talked on the topic Complex Applications for Decision Making using Statistics in detail. Through her own experience of working with Fisheries data, she put forward some example to be adopted by the researchers.

In Session-II, Prof. Prof. D.S.Hooda discussed in detail about the role of statistics in research and development. He shared his vast experience with participants.

The scholars presented their oral and poster presentations in Technical Session I & II respectively.

To encourage the researchers, their presentations were evaluated under the Chairmanship of Frof. (Dr.) Aquil. In oral presentation, the three best papers were awarded. Ronika Yousuf, Vishwa Bharti Womens College, Uzma Nazir, Division of AEM, Faculty of Fisheries, Dr. Bilal A. Bhat, and Fiba Arif, Faculty of Fisheries got 1st, 2nd and 3rd award respectively.

In Poster presentation, Ariba Fatima, College of Temperate Sericulture-Mirgund, SKUAST-Kashmir, Tehleel Nabi, Institute of Home Science, University of Kashmir, Sidrat-ul-Muntaha Anees, got 1st, 2nd and 3rd award respectively. The programme was sponsored by NAHEP, SKUAST-K.
