Vitthal Banote, the District Disaster Management Officer, stated that the department released a press note containing helpline numbers and contact details for Pune residents stranded in Kashmir. “Through the helpline, we collected information about residents’ return plans and how we could assist. While some preferred to stay longer, the majority wanted to return home. We compiled a list to distinguish between those with pre-arranged returns and those needing assistance. Individuals requiring special flights were categorized separately, and the central government collaborated with them to ensure their safe return,” Banote explained.
Many who returned expressed gratitude for the government’s efforts. Chhaya Patil, 55, remarked, “The government-organized special flight procedure was straightforward and provided a sense of security in such a challenging situation. Our return to Pune was exceptionally safe.”
Vishal Vyas, 54, added, “The coordination among government officials was commendable, and they made sure we understood our options. I felt immense relief upon reaching the airport, knowing that my family and I were on our way home safely.”
Deepali Gaikwad also emphasized the effective safety measures implemented. “Our safety in Kashmir was well-handled by local authorities, the Army, and government officials. Our journey from Kashmir to Jammu and then to Delhi was seamless. We encountered no issues and returned home without any problems.” (Agencies)
