The Modi government will take an “appropriate decision” at the “appropriate time” on Articles 370 and 35-A and it will be in the interest of Jammu and Kashmir as well as the country, the BJP’s poll in-charge for the state Avinash Rai Khanna said on Friday.

The BJP, the party’s vice president said, will form a government on its own in Jammu and Kashmir whenever elections are held.

Replying to a question on Articles 370 and 35-A, which give special status to Jammu and Kashmir, he said only time will tell what will happen on the two articles.

“The Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government will take appropriate action at an appropriate time, which will be in interest of Jammu and Kashmir and the country,” he said.

Khanna, who was the party’s in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir’s organisational affairs, was appointed election in-charge on Wednesday.

Discussing the previous PDP-BJP government, Khanna said it was an incomplete government.

“The BJP will form government on its own this time in Jammu and Kashmir, whenever assembly elections will be held in the state,” Khanna said.

He also praised Governor Satya Pal Malik and said an atmosphere of trust had been developed in the state.

The Election Commission may announce the poll schedule after the Amarnath Yatra is over. Official sources have indicated the elections may be held in October-November.

Sources in the BJP said the party will hoist the national flag in panchayats across the state on Independence Day in a bid to spread nationalism, especially in militancy-hit Kashmir.

Women are fragile, feminine, should be home at night: BJP MLA

0

Women are feminine and fragile and, therefore, should not be made to work in night shift jobs, Goa BJP’s woman MLA Alina Saldanha said on Friday.

Saldanha, a former cabinet minister, also said that women belong in the home, especially during the nights, otherwise their children face hardship.

“Women are said to be feminine and femininity means they are fragile, compared to their counterparts. I don’t think it is fair that the lady should go through the hardship, having to work in the night,” Saldanha told the reporters outside the state legislative assembly complex on Friday.

Her comments come a day after former Chief Minister Churchill Alemao told the state assembly that Goan women are “delicate” and therefore could not work on night shifts. He had also said that non-Goan women are “fast”, triggering outrage.

Alemao was speaking during a brief debate on the Factories (Goa Amendment) Act, 2019, which allows women to work night shifts in factories and manufacturing units.

On Friday, Saldana said that she firmly believes that “ladies should be in their homes”, especially at night.

“They are mothers, they have so many responsibilities and the children are there. Without the mother, the children are lost in the house. They do not know what to do. The presence of the mother in the house is very essential,” she said.

“Especially when children have to go to school, the mother has to be there at home to get them ready for school the next day. I feel that women should not be made to work night shifts and I am sure these flaws (in then amendment) will be considered,” Saldanha added.

When asked why she did not express her opposition to the amendment which was passed by a majority of 26-5, Saldanha said: “It is not that I did not object, I am very sorry. I was busy writing down some points on another issue and that’s how I missed it. In fact, I am very upset about it. It was a very short discussion, but I missed it”.

Suhail Khan

Baramulla, August 02 : Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti on Friday reiterated her stand that the party will stand against any move aimed to attack the special identity of Kashmir.

While talking to reporters on the sidelines of the function at Dak Banglow Baramulla Mehbooba Mufti said, that I had made a request to Farooq Abdullah to convene an all party meeting to give every party a chance to have its say but even before that, central government subjected him to questioning related to old Cricket scam.

After that Farooq Sahaab and Omar Sahaab had met with Modi and I was disappointed by the statement of later that they discussed elections with the PM.

Elections will happen and so will be the government formed but at present it is a matter of do or die for us and we have to safeguard our special identity.

The statements made by the top brass of BJP in Parliament amid mobilisation of forces while sidelining JK Police raises every apprehension that something is going to happen.
