Functioning of JKPM south Kashmir unit reviewed

Srinagar, Jul 25 : President JKPM Shah Faesal reviewed the functioning of South Kashmir unit of the party and reconstituted the ground team.

Mohammed Ramzan Ex Secretary Legislative Assembly was appointed as Vice President Parliamentary Affairs and in-charge South Kashmir.

On this occasion Shah Faesal said that Mohammad Ramzan is widely known in political and administrative circles and his long experience in public service will be a great asset for the party.

Riyaz Majid, a US-returned academic was appointed as Additional Spokesperson if the party.

The meeting discussed the party activities in South Kashmir and expressed satisfaction about the excellent work done by in-charge Anantnag Constiuency and VP Political Affairs Adv. Syed Iqbal Tahir.

The meeting was attended by Reyaz Majid member State Executive, Members of the State Executive Dr. Mohammad Hissain, Javed Ahmad Nilora, Javed Ahmad Khan and Mir Mudasir Rashid incharage.

Aspirational Districts Prog:DDC B’la Holds Interaction Meet with NITI AYOG Health Consultant

Baramulla, July 25: District Development Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo today holds an interactive meeting with NITI AYOG Health consultant Dr Vijayshree Yellappa under the centrally sponsored “Transformation of Aspirational Districts” Programme. On the occasion, a brief introduction of different indicators identified under the programme, was held during which DDC and his team of officers presented an overview about these parameters.

ADC Baramulla, Joint Director Planning, Chief Education officer and various other concerned officers were present during the meeting.

80 pumping stations, 115 mobile pumping units pressed to dewater Srinagar areas: SMC

Srinagar, Jul 25 : Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Thursday dewatered the submerged areas and pressed into the services both the mobile and stationed pumps across the city, particularly at the vulnerable points.

Following reports of water logging, Mayor Srinagar Junaid Azim Matoo took a review meeting on dewatering progress at his office chamber after conducting visits at different working stations and areas under submergence to take stock of de-watering exercise.

According to a statement issued, he was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Shiekh Imran, Commissioner SMC Khurshid Ahmad Sanai, SE Drainage, Exen Left River Works, Exen Right River Works, Exen Mechanical division, AEEs, Chief Sanitation Officer, Chief Transport Officer and other officials.

Mattu visited various places including Regal Chowk, Jehangir Chowk, Lalchowk, Magarmal bagh, Batamaloo etc. Mayor passed the directions to concerned team to keep dewatering stations in full operational mode round the clock and keep the standby diesel/generator sets in a state of readiness at the permanent dewatering stations.

“An action plan to divide city into four deployment zones ie North, West, east and south and to set up a control room for deploying of dewatering pumps throughout the city was also drafted in the meeting so that people in case of facing submergence in the wake of wet forecast can directly contact the liason officer of that particular zone,” the statement added.

It further added that both men and machines were working on war footing to ensure no civilian faces any inconvenience due to the rain water. The officials apprised Mayor of the ground situation and the men and machinery in place to dewater inundated areas.

The SMC has in place 80 pumping stations and all the catchment areas will be drained off. “There will be no submergence where these pump stations are working. They function round the clock,” said Commissioner SMC Sanai.

Besides, SMC has put in place sucker machines, and 115 mobile pumping units and for the first time eight high capacity Auto Prime Trolly mounted pumping units have been installed in the city as well.

The SMC has prioritized areas and all those places where there are reports of submergence will be attended to. “Major areas facing water logging have already been attended to,” said Sanai.

Dhoni to join his Army battalion in Kashmir from July 31-Aug 15

Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was awarded the honorary rank of a lieutenant colonel in 2011, will join his battalion in Jammu and Kashmir at the end of the month and carry out duties with the troops, official sources said on Thursday.

Dhoni will be with the 106 Territorial Army battalion (Para) from July 31 to August 15 and will be taking on the duties of patrolling, guard and post duty while staying with the troops, they said.

Dhoni, who is not part of Indian cricket team’s tour of the West Indies, had conveyed to the Army that he would like to serve his battalion which is at present stationed in Kashmir valley.

The unit is in Kashmir Valley as part of Victor Force.

“As requested by the officer and approved by the Army headquarters, he will be taking on the duties of patrolling, guard and post duty and would be staying with troops,” said a senior official.

6-year-old boy drowns into nallah, torrential rains damage several houses, standing crops in Lolab

Srinagar, July 25 : A 6-year-old boy drowned after slipped into a Nallah amid heavy rains at Harden, Sever area of Khurhama in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.

Reports reaching said that the boy Burhan Ahmad Malla (6) son of Aijaz Ahamd Malla, of Sever, Harden in Khurhama, Lolab slipped into the nallah today afternoon during heavy rains.

Soon after the incident, the family and neighbours immediately removed him to nearby by PHC where he was declared dead by the doctors.

A police officer also confirmed the death of the boy due to drowning.

Meanwhile, reports said that the torrential rains damaged several residential houses and standing crops in several parts of Lolab. (GNS)

Truck carrying 200 bags of Govt rice meant for black marketing seized in Kulgam, two arrested

Srinagar, July 25 : Two persons including truck driver were arrested and around 200 bags of government supply rice meant for black marketing was seized in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

A senior Police Officer told that acting on a specific information, a police party from police station Dhamhaal Hanjipora established a naka near J&K Bank Dhamhaal Hanjipora on yesterday evening.

“During the course of vehicular checking, a truck bearing registration number JK05-7633 on way towards D.H.pora from Srinagar was intercepted,” he said.

During the process of Checking, approximately 200 bags of Government Supply Rice was found inside the above said vehicle, he said.

“On questioning the truck, driver revealed his name as Mohd Shafi son of Bashir Ahmed Sheikh of Nandwan Uri, who was unable to give a satisfactory answer regarding the authenticity of the Rice,” the officer said.

Accordingly, a case FIR number 67/2019 U/S 420, 409, 120B, 3/7 EC Act dated 24-07-2019 was registered in police station Dhamhaal Hanjipora and investigation was set into motion, the officer told.

The truck and rice was seized and the driver was arrested, he said.

“During questioning the driver revealed that Shahid Ahmed Bangroo son of Abdul Hameed Bangroo of Mirjanpora, Eidgah Srinagar has procured the Govt supply Rice from various Govt stores in Srinagar and has changed the packaging of Rice to 777-Pure Ratna Rice in connivance with some CAPD employees and was trying to supply it in District kulgam against hafty amounts,” the officer said.

The accused Shahid Ahmed Bangroo has also been arrested and many more arrests are expected in coming days, he said. (GNS)

Tractor rollover in Lolab Kupwara, two injured

Kupwara, July 25 : Two persons on Thursday were injured after a tractor in which they were traveling fell down into Nallah in north Kashmir’s Lolab village of Kupwara district.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said two persons sustained serious injuries after the tractor skidded off the road and fell down into Nallah due to slippery condition of road caused by fresh rains.

However, timely efforts of locals both injured were rescued and were rushed to nearby hospital for treatment.

A police officer also confirmed the incident and identified both injured as Manzoor Ahmed Shah and Umar Farooq both residents of Shartmuqam Lolab.

Amid rains forces launch search operation in Bandipora village

Bandipora, July 25 : Amid incresent rains forces launched a cordon and search operation in North Kashmir’s Bandipora village on Thursday.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said a joint team of forces including Army’s 27 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Turkpora of Bandipora and conducted house to house search operation in the area.

Locals reports said forces selaed all entry and exit points in the area and started searches in the village.

A police officer said following suspecious movement searches were launched in the area.

Searches in the area was on when last reports came in.

Sopore family stages protest against mysterious death of their kin, demand Justice

Sopore, July 25 : Family of Sopore youth staged a protest demonstration today against his mysterious death in a local hotel here in Srinagar on Sunday.

Reports reaching GNS said that relatives and other family members of deceased Abdul Rahim Marazi alias Gusha son of Ghulam Mohammad Marazi of Sofi Hamam assembled at Chankhan on Srinagar-Sopore highway and blocked traffic for sometime.

The protestors demanding a thorough probe into the death of Marazi and those involved should be punished as per law.

Marazi, as per his family had left his home with his friends on last Saturday and had stayed a night in a local hotel in Srinagar. The family alleged that their kin was murdered there.

Meanwhile a team of police reached the spot and assured the protesters that case with regard to Marazi’s killing is registered in Police Station Maisuma and investigations are underway. (GNS)
