‘MS Dhoni asked not to retire while team grooms Rishabh Pant’

0

New Delhi: Chief selectors M.S.K. Prasad started Sunday’s press conference with great gusto after picking the Indian squads for the Windies tour. Not only did he say that he would clear all doubts about the strange replacement pattern during the World Cup, but also added that he would clear the air over M.S. Dhoni’s position. While he started on the lines that Rishabh Pant is being groomed with an eye on the 2020 World T20, what he did not reveal was how the team management has requested Dhoni not to retire at the moment.

Speaking to IANS, sources in the know of developments said that while Pant is being readied with an eye on the 2020 World T20, the team management doesn’t wish for Dhoni to hang his boots as that could create a sudden vacuum in the set-up which will be hard to fill if Pant suffers an injury by any chance going into the next showpiece event.

“Dhoni knows what his role and position is. All these talks about his retirement and when he will call it quits makes no sense as he is a team player. He will never react to any controversy and I am sure you all know this much about the man and his ethics.

“While the team management is grooming Pant with an eye on the next T20 World Cup and beyond, they want Dhoni as a mentor and back-up if he is needed going into the tournament. They want him to stick around a bit longer.

“Take a look around and tell me who are your options if Pant suffers an injury? To be honest, all the names on the other side don’t match-up to be half as good as Dhoni still is. Yes, there is no denying the fact that Pant is the future and he will be looked at across all formats, but New Delhi: Chief selectors M.S.K. Yes, there is no denying the fact that Pant is the future and he will be looked at across all formats, but Dhoni’s guidance as well as presence is still needed,” the source explained.
Prasad on his part said that the team was looking at Pant across all formats and that it was on Dhoni to decide when he wishes to retire. “Retirement is purely individual. A legendary cricketer like Dhoni…he knows when to retire. But as far as the future roadmap is considered, that is in the hands of the selectors. He (Dhoni) is unavailable for this series. Having said that, we had certain roadmaps till the World Cup. Subsequently, post the World Cup, we have laid down few more plans.

“We thought of giving as many opportunities to Rishabh Pant to see he is groomed. That’s our plan right now. Pant hasn’t done anything wrong for his non-inclusion in the playing XI. Pant will be playing all the three formats so we will have to look about his workload management,” he said.
When asked why Prasad made such a comment if it was indeed a team management decision to ask Dhoni to hang around a little longer, the source declined to get into that but said that there seems to be more than what meets the eye when it comes to his handling of questions on Dhoni.

“Even earlier he had made a public statement about Dhoni that was different from what he had stated in private on the day of a selection meeting. He had said that MS had wanted rest and in public he said that the selectors were looking for more options,” the source added.

India rejects Trump’s mediation claim, says ‘no request made’ by PM Modi

US President Donald Trump expressed his desire to mediate between India and Pakistan on Kashmir issue and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also asked for his help on the northern most state, the Ministry of External affairs has rejected the claims saying that “no such request has been made”.

“We have seen POTUS’s remarks to the press that he is ready to mediate, if requested by India & Pakistan, on Kashmir issue. No such request has been made by PM Narendra Modi to US President” Raveesh Kumar, Official Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs tweeted.

He added, “It has been India’s consistent position that all outstanding issues with Pakistan are discussed only bilaterally. Any engagement with Pakistan would require an end to cross border terrorism.”

President Donald Trump, after meeting Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had said, “I think they (Indians) would like to see it (Kashmir issue) resolved. I think you (Khan) would like to see it resolved. And if I can help, I would love to be a mediator. It should be….we have two incredible countries that are very, very smart with very smart leadership, (and they) can’t solve a problem like that. But if you would want me to mediate or arbitrate, I would be willing to do that.

We have a very good relationship with India. I know that your relationship (with India) is strained a little bit, maybe a lot. But we will be talking about India… (it’s) a big part of our conversation today and I think maybe we can help intercede and do whatever we have to do.”

Imran Khan, sitting by Trump in the Oval Office, said that Pakistan would welcomed such a move by the US.

India has not been engaging with Pakistan since an attack on the Air Force base at Pathankot in January of 2016 by Pakistan-based militants, maintaining that talks and terror cannot go together.

Interestingly, White House Press statement on Trump’s meet with Khan had no mention of Kashmir.(IANS)

Imran Khan focuses on Pakistan’s problems in US speech

0

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan turned introspective, stressing his country’s problems in his speech to the Pakistani diaspora here, with no references to contemporary India.

Khan, who is in Washington in a bid to reset relations with the US, stayed away from international issues except for a brief mention of Afghanistan while speaking to his supporters on Sunday at a sports arena.

Mention of India was notably absent as that could backfire in his other dealings or coverage in the US by bringing up issues like terrorism to the fore.

Khan dissected some of Pakistan’s ills blaming a lack of meritocracy, accountability of leaders and corruption in a speech that sounded more like a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) campaign.

But a glaring omission was the role of terrorism in disrupting the country’s development.

As he was starting to speak about his meeting with US President Donald Trump scheduled on Monday and Afghanistan towards the end of his speech, people calling for independence of Balochistan stood up and shouted slogans.

His speech was cut out and songs in praise of Pakistan and Khan came over the public address system in a bid to drown out the protesters.

Khan said that when meeting Trump, he would emphasise that a military solution was not possible in Afghanistan and he had maintained that always.

The diaspora meeting was in the style of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with people of Indian descent.

But Khan’s speech was completely partisan with digs at the opposition aimed personally at Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F leader Fazalur Rahman, Pakistan Peoples Party head Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Pakistan Muslim League-N leaders, the Sharifs – Nawaz, Asif and Maryam.

He said that he was ending airconditioning and other privileges for Nawaz Sharif in prison.

Khan said that his country had lagged behind the world in development because of cronyism and corruption. Except for Mohammed Ali Jinnah and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who were charismatic, there was a leadership vacuum because leaders were foisted on either because of family ties or because of the military in the case of Nawaz Sharif, he said.

And there was no accountability for the leaders, he said, without mentioning the role of the military that has ruled Pakistan for most of its life with an iron fist.

His only mentions of India or Hindustan were from the eras of Muslim rule to make his point about meritocracy and the curse of nepotism. He asserted that Hindustan was a “superpower” with the biggest economy under the Mughals until the successors of Aurangzeb, who came to power through family ties, ruined it through their incompetence.

He also mentioned the Slave Dynasty of Qutab-ud-din Aibak as an example of meritocracy.

Appealing to the cricket mania, he said that Pakistan had the best players but they were being held back and gave an assurance that by insisting on meritocracy, he would make his country’s team the champions again. IANS

Srinagar, July 20 : The paramedical staff of seven hospitals here under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Medical Employees Federation on Monday started two-day hunger strike to press for their demands, particularly regularization of their services.

Reports reaching said that hunger strike was held in Government Medical College Park and patient care was badly hit in the associated hospitals of GMC.

As per officials, even vital sections of these hospitals are being run by class-IV employees despite the fact they are not qualified people to do the job of technologists, pharmacists etc and put the lives of people at risk.

Similarly in other cadres like nursing, pharmacy, general laboratories, radiology etc patient care was hit, they said.

“Out of around 87 people in the Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine, almost 80 people are working on academic arrangement basis and only 7 are confirmed and due to this large number of surgical procedures have been delayed as Anesthesia Department is the backbone of these hospitals,” sources said.

Some officials in the department confirmed that it was a matter of serious concern that these hospitals are run on adhocism.

A senior leader of the Federation told GNS that thousands of paramedics of GMC and associated hospitals who were appointed since 2011 under SRO 384 on academic arrangements are working tirelessly without any break since then.

He said the federation decided to go on two-day hunger strike for regularization of services.

“We decided to go on strike against the government’s indifference to address our genuine demands which include framing of regularization policy,” he said adding that most of the employees are over aged now and cannot apply for fresh posts if referred to SSRB.

“These hospitals like LD which is lone maternity hospital, SMHS hospital, GB Panth hospital, Chest Disease hospital and Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla are important part of the Valley’s healthcare. The government should our genuine demands sans any further delay,” he said.

The demands of the protesting staff include regularization of the academic arrangement employees who have not been regularized even after nine years of service; regularization of HDF and SDF hospital staff; repealing of SRO-384/409; and enhancement of salary of HDF and SDF staff.

The federation has warned that if state administration failed to meet their demands until July 23, they will intensify the stir and the entire responsibility shall lie on the administration.  (GNS)

New Hospital Building Construction Put on Hold for Safety Audit; ‘Govt Forces Occupy Building’: DGM JKPCC

Srinagar, July 22 : Doctors and other medical staff on Monday observed a day-long strike at Maternity hospital Anantnag over the alleged ‘manhandling’ of hospital staff at the hands of protesters following the death of a pregnant woman allegedly due to negligence of the doctors .

Reports reaching said that the staff held a protest demonstration in the hospital premises, seeking immediate redressal of their grievances, besides asked Principal Government College Anantnag to recommend security cover for them.

When contacted, Principal Government College Anantnag, Dr. Showkat Jeelani told GNS that he has taken the issue into consideration and measures are in the offing. “Our staff in MCH Anantnag is working under most stressful conditions in the hospital given the paucity of staff, medicines and space in the hospital,” he said, adding, “People need to understand our limitations before resorting to any action that puts the life of staff at risk and hospital property at stake.”

The principal said he has received a memorandum from the staff for security cover and “I will recommend it to the government for the safety of our staff.”

The Principal expressed his disapproval over the vandalizing and thrashing of hospital staff at the hands of some locals and said: “It is highly unfortunate that our medical staff was manhandled by some people and if the things go like this who will work in the hospital.”

Meanwhile, requesting the people not to take law in their hands, the GMC head said: “I urge the people to restrain themselves from assaulting hospital staff and damaging the property.”

Admitting the fact the patients are suffering due to lack of space in the hospital, he said that the space in the hospital is very less with so much of patient flow on a daily basis and they are working in tandem with the authorities to make the under construction Rehmat-e-Alam unit functional as soon as possible.”

Rehmat-e-Alam complex is proposed to be a 4-floor structure. Ground floor and First floor have been constructed by the Trust itself which is a private body. “Half of the 2nd floor was constructed by JK housing board, balance 2nd and 3rd floor have been raised by JKPCC,” Director General Manager JKPCC M Hussain Dar told.

Recently, he said, advisor K Vijay Kumar directed health department to seek safety audit of the already constructed part from DIQC department till then funds have been put on hold. “Currently security forces have occupied it,” he said. Against cost of RS 12.10 cr, he said only Rs 3.21 stand released up-to-date.

Meanwhile, assuring that action will be taken against any negligence from the hospital staff, Principal said: “I assure you that if any of our doctors is found negligent he would be taken to task.”

Pertinently people are aghast over the alleged negligence of hospital staff which according to them led to the death of a pregnant woman few days ago. (GNS)

The XIX Metropolitan Magistrate Court convicted the 40-year-old man and his 34-year-old wife, both private employees, and sentenced them to RI, besides imposing a fine of Rs 10,000 on each on them, police said.
The couple was convicted under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 criminal intimidation and other relevant sections of the IPC, a police official said.

The man’s mother, who is a widow, had lodged a police complaint on October 2015 against her son and daughter-in-law for allegedly ill-treating and abusing her and forcibly occupying her house after throwing her out.

The woman, in the complaint, said she has two sons and a daughter, all of whom got married when her husband was alive.

In October 2013, her husband died and in February 2015, her elder son and his wife forcibly entered her house, the complainant said.

Guv’s appeal to militants is confession of failure of institutions: Er Rasheed

0

Srinagar, Jul 22 : Reacting to Governor’s revelations claiming involvement of few Ex Minister’s in corruption and other scams, AIP president Er Rasheed Monday said that any step taken with sincerity to eradicate corruption should be welcomed and it is most appropriate to take bigger fishes to task on priority, however asking militants to kill corrupt politicians is a confession that government has miserably failed to handle the issue and has thus sought militants help to eradicate corruption.

In a statement issued, Er Rasheed said, “It is a bitter fact that politicians especially ministers have earned fortunes out of sufferings of masses but bigger fishes in police and civil administration are not far behind. There could hardly be someone who might not have got indulged in corruption scams when got an opportunity to reach corridors of power.”

He said Satya Pal Malik is absolutely right in revealing the facts about few Ex Ministers but the need of the hour is not to confine the movement against corruption against few individuals and let blue eyed looters run free. “The constitutional provisions have been misused and many have become commissioners, managing directors, executive engineers and heads of departments despite not being eligible for such posts,” he said.

Er Rasheed added that if Governor Malik has asked militants to attack corrupt politicians, it is visible that he has lost hope in the system and out of sincerity is seeking help from militants. “Governor’s appeal to militants should be seen in right prospective and one must understand that militants are not aliens and one way or the other governance should be their concern as well,” he added.

He added that Omer Abdullah has every right to equate governor’s statement as if Governor is asking for Kangaroo courts but one must question Omer Abdullah if he has been so quick to respond to Governor’s statement and his team is so pious why did not he or someone from his party uttered even a single word when income tax department carried out raids on NC senior leader Abdul Rahim Rather’s business establishments.

“However not only Governor but everyone else needs to be reminded that New Delhi has never been serious and had given free hand to its proxies from time to time to loot state. No one can forget when Ex Congress Minister Taj Mohidin was accused of land grabbing in South Kashmir the entire enquiry was closed after he expressed his displeasure and used his so called loyalty and pro Indian credentials as a defense to defend huge charges against him and went to the extend saying publicly that he has upheld try color against all odds since decades and it was strange enough that the entire issue disappeared from the government files,” he said.
