Show statesmanship and resolve Kashmir, Mirwaiz urges Modi, Khan

0

Srinagar, June 20 : Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Thursday reiterated his appeal to the leadership of India and Pakistan – PM Modi and PM Khan – to “show statesmanship” while enjoying the full support of their people and resolve the Kashmir issue once and for all in the interest of humanity and peace.

It was India and Pakistan who took the issue to UN when Jammu and Kashmir got divided in 1947, Mirwaiz said while addressing the 56th foundation day of at Awami Action Committee (AAC) at its headquarters Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal.

According to an AAC statement, the event was attended by a large number of party members and activists.

Mirwaiz, who is also the patron of AAC, said the two countries signed the UN resolutions and in the last 70 years, have gone to wars over it.

India and Pakistan signed various agreements at Tashkent, Simla, Agra, Lahore, and started the composite dialogue, but it is the people of Kashmir who have suffered the most and are at the receiving end, he said.

Mirwaiz said that Awami Action Committee was founded with a view to give voice to Kashmiris and their genuine demand for the resolution of Kashmir issue in a peaceful manner.

“It was the founder of AAC Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Farooq who first talked of alternative means of a peaceful and democratic resolution in the form of dialogue among the stakeholders including with the people of J&K, which included all the regions of the state,” he said.

“A great votary of peace, progress and friendship among the people of both the nations, he (Mirwaiz Farooq) wanted Kashmir to be a bridge of friendship between the two countries not a source of continuous belligerence, which only benefits the arms suppliers of the world at the expense of resources that should go for upliftment of millions of poor in both countries,” he said.

Hurriyat (M) chairman said that “AAC was not formed for furtherance of any vested interest or to gain power and that continues to be so”.

“The party’s purpose is to peacefully press for resolution of Kashmir issue keeping in view the sentiments and aspirations of its people. It believes in the democratic principle that the people of entire J&K as it existed in 1947 have a right to seek a resolution of the issue that arose when the subcontinent was divided and subsequently J&K also got divided,” he said.

“An artificial line runs through this land dividing friends and family. The people of Kashmir want an end to uncertainty of past many decades they want a closure. We are not against any nation or its people. We are people of peace and good will and all we say is peacefully through dialogue resolve the issue,” Mirwaiz said.

He said that disengagement, bloodshed, force and intimidation have not and will not be able to solve the issue. He termed it extremely painful that “each day we shoulder the coffins of our young, take them to graves when a bright future is what we seek for them”.

“We are losing our most precious resource our young to the conflict. In the past one week alone, more than 25 people have lost their life including armed youth civilians and soldiers to the conflict, which is extremely unfortunate and sad. We want an end to all these killings,” the AAC president said.

Meanwhile, commenting on the NIA charge against JKLF chairman Yasin Malik who is in its custody, “for forging unity amongst people and leadership”, Mirwaiz said that forging unity is no crime.

“In the past decade, people many times have launched agitations to raise their voice seeking resolution forcefully. We have always advocated a peaceful manner of reflecting our sentiment,” Mirwaiz said.

Regional Councils imperative for equitable development

POONCH JUNE 20- Senior National Conference leaders on Thursday pledged to foil conspiracies being hatched to fiddle with the special identity and singular entity of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Those nurturing wild dreams of trifurcating the state or tinkering with its special status are destined to fail, as the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh are determined to frustrate all their attempts with their full might”, General Secretary Mr Ali Mohammed Sagar said while addressing senior functionaries and delegates of Mendhar, Surankote and Poonch here this evening.

Former ministers Mian Altaf Ahmed, Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana, and Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Shah Bukhari, Provincial Youth National Conference President Mr Ajaz Jan, former legislators Th Rachpal Singh, Mr Javed Rana, Mr Rattan Lal Gupta, Mr Rahim Dad and senior leaders also addressed the convention.

Mr Ali Mohammed Sagar also cautioned against the machinations being engineered to weaken the National Conference, a bold voice of the people of the state and a binding force between the regions and the communities living in harmony for centuries. To achieve their malicious agenda, anti-people and anti-poor elements are being encouraged to cause divisions and wedge between the people, he said while exhorting the cadre to remain vigilant against their nefarious designs.

The General Secretary called for further strengthening National Conference at the grass roots level to meet the challenges facing the state. He said the recent victory in the parliamentary elections reflects the urges of the people to have a strong government which can uphold the political aspirations and undertake holistic development across the state with equal opportunities of progress to all. He exhorted the cadre to get prepared for the assembly elections, whenever held in near future.

“In the midst of myopic politics based on religion, National Conference stands tall for its unflinching commitment to secularism and single entity of the state”, Mr Sagar said while recalling the crucial role played by the party before and after 1947 in promoting and sustaining Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Bhudist and Christian Unity.

Emphasisng the need for closing ranks and girding up loins for the assembly elections, Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana said National Conference is all set to script a historic victory and forming the government on its own.

“National Conference alone can steer the state to peace and prosperity”, Mr Rana said, adding that the people of the state have made up their mind to have a stable government that can end the era of developmental and administrative inertia of the past few years. To achieve equitable development of all the regions and their sub-region, setting up of Regional Councils will have to be accorded top priority, he added.

Mr Rana said the miseries inflicted upon the people of the state, especially those living in remote and far off areas call for a special dispensation in terms of employment, development and economic emancipation. The successive National Conference governments have set a high standard of performance. While the government led by Mr Omar Abdullah laid strong developmental edifice with thrust on employability, Dr Farooq Abdullah government between 1996 and 2002 put the state on the path of normalcy. Over two lakh jobs were provided during that period, he said, adding that the entire developmental edifice across the state witnessed transformation under the dynamic leadership of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah.

Addressing the workers, former minister Mian Altaf Ahmed spelt out the initiatives taken by National Conference for the upliftment of marginalized segments including Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, OBCs and other weaker sections of the society.

“National Conference has been an umbrella of poor, who got empowered, be it the revolutionary land to tiller or devolution of power at grass roots level to involve them in the decision making”, Mian Altaf said and stressed the need for generating massive awareness about the policies and programmes of the party.

Former minister Syed Mushtaq Ahmad Shah Bukhari, while addressing the workers, called for intensifying the mass outreach programme to sanitize the people about challenges faced to the state.

Mr Bukhari recalled the crucial role played by National Conference in border development and enhancing the quality of life of the people living in disadvantageous areas.

“We are committed to serve the people with sincerity of purpose”, he added.

Provincial Youth National Conference President Mr Ajaz Jan assailed the PDP-BJP government for anti-youth policies, saying the educated unemployed were virtually pushed to the wall by throttling the opportunities of jobs to them.

Mr Jan also referred to the plight of border dwellers and said that the insensitive coalition took sadistic pleasure in their sufferings by leaving them in lurch during most difficult times.

Former MLA Mr Javed Rana castigated the divisive forces, saying they have left a scar of polarization by dividing the people for petty political gains.

“National Conference has all along worked towards strengthening the idea of Jammu and Kashmir and will do so despite the machinations of polarizing elements”, Mr Javed Rana said.

In his address, former MLA Th Rachpal Singh called for strengthening the bonds of brotherhood, which he said was under severe strain due to divisive and hate politics being pursued by anti-people forces.

State Secretary Mr Rattan Lal Gupta, former legislator Mr Rahim Daad and other senior leaders of the three constituencies also addressed the convention.
