Injured Ganderbal biker succumbs to injuries

Ganderbal, Jun 19 : A Ganderbal youth injured in a bike crash on Tuesday evening succumbed to his injuries this morning at SKIMS Soura Srinagar.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said a youth identified as Usaid Ahmed Bhat son of Mohammad Yousuf Bhat resident of Duderhama Ganderbal was critically injured after a speeding tipper (JK03-7541) hit a motocycle (JK01A-5371)which he was riding at Naiteng area of Lar.

In the mishap a pillon rider identified as Uzair Ahmed Lone son of Showkat Ahmad Lone resident of Duderhama Ganderbal died on spot.

However, after being hospitalised for night this morning he succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura medical institute reports added.

A police officer while confirming the incident to Kashmir Despatch said a case under relevant sections of law had already registered and further investigation has been initiated.

Motor shell detected in Kupwara village, destroyed

Srinagar, June 18 : Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of police on Tuesday destroyed a mortar shell at Nagri Malpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Reports reaching said that the some locals spotted the shell and informed police station concerned about it.

Confirming the incident, a police officer said that the bomb disposal squad was immediately rushed to the spot who later destroyed the shell without causing any damage. (GNS)

Missing Baramulla youth joins militancy; photo flaunting AK-47 goes viral

Baramulla, Jun 18 : A youth, who had gone missing from Baramulla town of north Kashmir last month has reportedly joined Lashker e Toiba militant outfit as his picture flaunting an AK-47 rifle has gone viral on social media.


A picture of Adnan Ahmed Channa son of Ali Mohammad Channa resident of Arampora Baramulla has gone viral on social media.


In the picture he could be seen holding AK 47 riffle with code name Saifullah Bhai.


A police official when contacted told Kashmir Despatch that we are ascertaining the authenticity of the picture and are investigating it from all angles.

Pertainally, last week Police, army handed over four youths to families who were held while exfiltrating LoC in north Kashmir.

Mehbooba visits Arshid Khan’s residence

Srinagar, Jun 18 : To express solidarity with the bereaved family, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday visited the residence of slain Police Officer Arshid Ahmad Khan.

Mehbooba while condoling Arshid’s sad demise expressed solidarity with his family members and prayed for their patience at this hour of great loss.

She added that the unresolved conflict is claiming precious human lives, destroying families and orphaning children in hordes. Mehbooba pitched for the end of violence and bloodshed and hoped that the saner voices will prevail to resolve the conflict and end peoples sufferings in Jammu and Kashmir. 

Govt likely to probe illegal appointments in PSUs

Srinagar, Jun 18 : The Jammu and Kashmir government is likely to probe alleged illegal appointments in various state owned corporations, news agency has learnt.

Sources close to the government told news agency that the Governor Satya Paul Malik has taken strong note of the allegations that over the years scores of employees have been appointed illegally in the state owned corporations. “To dig out the truth in this, the Government is likely to inquire all such illegal appointments,” sources told news agency.

Sources maintained that the government will identify all those responsible for making appointments without advertisements and vacancies in the corporations.

It has been alleged that maximum beneficiaries were political workers who were adjusted in different corporations without considering fallout on the financial health of the corporations.

Sources said that the government over the years has failed to probe these appointments and book the culprits.

Sources further informed that there are allegations that many of the backdoor appointees in some corporations were first appointed as consolidated and later placed in the grade pay within shortest possible time by setting all rules and regulations aside.

“Though many house committees were constituted in Jammu and Kashmir to look into the illegal and backdoor appointments made in the state government departments, public undertakings and corporations, but these committees never succeeded to probe the matter,” sources maintained.

Sources alleged that each corporation had appointed illegally over hundred blue eyed persons. There was no accountability as how these appointments were made and thereafter given two to three grade promotions.

It is also a known fact that, most of the corporations are in losses and heavily dependent on the government for paying salaries to the staff and carrying out their day today activities.

It is to mention here that the government, in order to check the menace of illegal, backdoor appointment and re-employment had issued an order, wherein all government departments, PSU’s and other organization were debarred for making temporary arrangements and the blanket ban was imposed on making illegal appointments and re-employment. It was also mentioned in the order that all the re-employment orders issued by various government departments are revoked with immediate effect.

However as per the sources, the aforementioned order was not implemented in letter and spirit, rather the government departments and public sector undertakings had chosen to continue making re-employment and back door appointments. (KNS) 

Geelani pays tributes to Mohammad Morsi

Srinagar, June 18 : Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday expressed sadness and anguish over the death of former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi.

In a statement issued Geelani said: “Although every living creature has to taste death, but some personalities due to their dedication, hard work, truthfulness and high moral values rule and conquer the hearts of countless people, not only who are near them, but even those who have only heard about them and their demise creates such a vacuum which for long, makes its well-wishers feel.”

Paying glorious tributes to Morsi, Hurriyat (G) chairman said: “When the dark clouds of death and destruction are seen everywhere particularly Muslim nations, when blood of innocents is made inferior and even to water, when highhandedness and autocratic rule suffocated every conscious individual, especially people of Egypt, leaders like Mohammed Morsi emerged as visionary and a torch bearer. His thunder and truthful roar, threatened every bad soul, who started to halt his progressive actions using every weapon in their arsenal.”

He said through the globally accepted and an authenticated system, Mohammad Morsi was elected to lead the nation. “But not only anti-Muslim forces, but so-called custodians of Islamic heritage opened their treasures to pump in trillions of dollars to help the anti-social, anti-revolutionary and anti-democratic forces to wage a bloody war against the Egyptian population,” he said.

Geelani said that rulers of Egypt’s neighbouring countries crushed every fabric of democratic and moral values and acted as “pawns” of world powers to “kill, maim, arrest and torture those who stood by their faith and commitment”.

Condoling and consoling the people of Egypt and the family of the deceased, Geelani said “the vacuum created by Morsi’s death should not let the cruel and barbaric forces to get encouraged”. He prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.

Srinagar, June 18 : Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today directed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Kashmir Division and concerned officers to ensure hassle-free arrangements are put in place for the Hajj pilgrims in their respective districts.  

The Div Com through video conferencing took a district-wise appraisal of preparations and arrangements for Hajj pilgrims from each District Development Commissioners of Kashmir Division.

The meeting was informed that 11,600 Hajj pilgrims will perform Hajj this year from the J&K.

It was revealed that the first batch of Hajj pilgrims from the Kashmir valley will leave on July 04. 70 flights, ferrying 150 pilgrims in each flight will fly from Srinagar Airport up till July 29.

It was urged that all the Hajj pilgrims will reach Hajj House, Bemina four hours before their scheduled flight schedule for necessary departure procedure.   

While reviewing the arrangements and facilities being provided to the Hajj pilgrims of the state, the Divisional Commissioner directed the PDD to install generator sets to supplement the uninterrupted power supply to the Hajj house Bemina.

He also directed the concerned officers to put all arrangements with regard to maintaining a regular supply of drinking water, sanitation, besides the establishment of medical camp along with services of medical officers and ambulance available at Hajj House Srinagar and at Airport 24×7 to facilitate the pilgrims. SRTC will provide an adequate number of high-end buses for transporting the pilgrims from Hajj House to the Airport.

Khan directed SMC officers to ensure proper sanitation is maintained in and around the Hajj House, besides providing additional mobile toilets in Hajj House and Airport so that pilgrims do not face any kind of difficulty.

R&B engineers were asked to carry out immediate macadamization of link roads in Hajj House, while as the Fire Tenders will be deployed at Hajj House and Airport. For real-time announcements for Hajjis,   Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) shall install Public Address System (PAS) at Bemina and Srinagar Airport.

Div Com directed Police to ensure proper security and barricading arrangements in Hajj House, Bemina and Airport and issue security passes to the concerned officials well before time. SSP Traffic will devise proper route plan to avoid vehicle jamming. The Officer will also deploy 70 Home Guard personnel and Red Cross volunteers in the Hajj House and Airport for the facilitation of the pilgrims. 

The meeting was informed that State Bank of India will install Currency Exchange Counter at the Airport and Hajj House Bemina, besides Jammu and Kashmir Bank Limited will provide refreshment to the Hajj Pilgrims at Airport.

Mechanical Department will provide Crane for Shifting of X-Ray machine from Airport to Hajj House.

The Div Com asked DDC Budgam to visit the airport premises for the finalization of necessary arrangements and the deployment of magistracy en-route to the Airport besides install information center in Airport premises.  

Khan directed all officials to gear up and finalize all the arrangements well in time, besides all DCs will hold a meeting in their respective districts to ensure hassle-free arrangements for the convenience of Hajjis. 

The meeting was attended by Executive Officer State Hajj Committee (SHC) Dr Abdul Salaam Mir, Additional Commissioner Kashmir Tasaduq Hussain Mir, Commissioner SMC, Joint Director Information & Public Relations (DIPR) Abid Hussain, Joint Director of Fire & Emergency services, SSP Anti-Hijacking, GM JKSRTC, Deputy Directors of Floriculture & Tourism, DNO Health Services, Superintending Engineers of PHE and R&B, SMC, SSP Traffic, SP Traffic (Rural), Officers of Airport Authority of India & Customs, Area Commandant Home Guards and other concerned officials were present in this meeting whereas all Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir Division participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

AIP, JKPM announce pre-poll alliance under PUF for assembly elections

Srinagar, June 18 : In a significant development, Awami Itehaad Party (AIP) and J&K People’s Movement (JKPM) has entered into an alliance for the upcoming assembly elections under the banner of People’s United Front (PUF).

According to reports, the alliance coordination committee chairman Javiad Mustafa Mir while addressing a press conference at Press Club Srinagar on Tuesday said the functioning of the alliance will be monitored by a 6-member coordination committee with 3 members from each party and shall be headed by Mir himself.

Javiad Mustafa Mir is the chairman of JKPM founded and headed by bureaucrat-turned politician Shah Faesal.

“In view of the prevailing political circumstances in the State of Jammu & Kashmir, Awami Itehaad Party and J&K People’s Movement have decided to enter into a pre-poll alliance and gather under the banner of ‘People’s United Front’,” Mir said.

He said “the alliance has been necessitated by the ongoing political uncertainty in the State, apprehensions with regard to assault on the special status and the absence of any credible political alternative in the State that could address both the political vacuum and the and the absence of good governance”.

People’s United Front will make all efforts to unite all people of the State, irrespective of religion, region, caste and creed and seek for all citizens of the state equal opportunities and social, economic and political justice, Javaid Mustafa said, adding that the alliance shall follow the duly agreed upon Common Agenda for Alliance.

On the occasion, AIP president Er Rasheed said the alliance is not against any individual, party, community or region but is aimed at providing people of entire State a durable, workable and strong political alternative “which would give them not only best governance but will also do whatever possible and required to find a permanent resolution to the political issue that may suit the sentiments, sacrifices and aspirations of people of erstwhile state of J&K”.

Er Rasheed expressed confidence that PUF will form the government on its own as people of J&K have a right to live with honour and dignity and get what they deserve.

JKPM president Shah Faesal said the alliance will not let down the people of the State and will deliver on all fronts.

He pledged that “the alliance is committed to protect not only the Article 35-A and Article 370 but will struggle sincerely to achieve what has been snatched or what the people of the state deserve”.

PUF will provide good governance and strive to give justice to people of all regions and religions, Shah Faesal said.

On the occasion, a 45-point common agenda of alliance was also released unveiling the alliance’s roadmap over various important political and governance issues.

Govt to open AMRIT in JK, MoU signed

Srinagar, June 18 : The state government in its endeavour to provide quality and affordable medicines to the end users has taken an initiative to open AMRIT (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment).

The pharmacies offer more than 5200 drugs, implants, surgical disposables and other consumables at average discounts up to 60 per cent of maximum retail price (MRP).

These stores are operating under the aegis of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

In the preceding year, the AMRIT impact can be understood from the fact that in the country, 118.52 lakh people availed its services and against MRP value of drugs i.e. Rs 1133.79 crore, saving to the patients was Rs 598.75 crore.

As on Tuesday, 23 states are having AMRIT stores. The total number of outlets is 149 out of which 29 are in central governmental institutions and 106 in state government.

These stores offer medicines, implants, surgical and ophthalmic products, and offer uninterrupted 24×7 services.

Initially, 18 stores are planned to be opened in the state which covers all the medical college hospitals, SKIMS and prominent associated hospitals of the state.

According to GNS, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of these institutions has been executed between respective Medical Superintendents and HLL Life Care Ltd on Tuesday at Government Medical College, Srinagar which is the Nodal Agency for AMRIT Pharmacies.

HLL Life Care Ltd. is committed to start its operation within two months.

Man critically injured in bear attack in Poonch

Poonch, June 18 : A 36-year-old man was critically injured on Tuesday after a wild bear attacked him in Dooke Chatta Pani along the Mughal road in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The injured was identified as Mohd Ayoub (36) son of Mohd Qasim of Bhunikheit, Bufliaz.

An official said that Ayoub was attacked when he was grazing his cattle in the forest area. He said that the injured was shifted to PHC Buffliaz for treatment. (GNS)
