Kashmiri Pandit delegation visits Mirwaiz, say ‘don’t want to live in separate colonies’

0

Srinagar, June 11 : A delegation of Kashmiri pandits visiting the valley in connection with Meala Kheer Bhawani called on Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his Nigeen residence on Tuesday.

The delegation was led by Satish Kumar and Nathil Razdan who said they are a group of ordinary Kashmiris and not affiliated with any organisation, a Hurriyat (M) spokesperson said in a statement issued.

He said the members of the delegation told Mirwaiz that they and hundreds like them are extremely eager to return to their homeland and seek his help in this regard.

“They said that they do not want to live in separate and segregated colonies as is being suggested by authorities but like in the past want to live among all in common neighbourhoods,” he said.

They said that as land prices are much higher than before, they would not be able to afford individual plots and homes, so they suggest that in each district of the valley some land may be allocated to them where they can build affordable flats in which they can live, the spokesperson said adding that the members of other communities can also buy flats there if they want and that they do not want segregation but want to live together.

“The delegation told Mirwaiz that they being a part and parcel of Kashmir society and its composite ethos are as much pained by what is happening here as their Muslim brethren. They said that many claim to represent them, but in reality most are exploiting there situation and there deep emotional desire to come back, rather than doing much about it,” he said.

Mirwaiz told the delegation that he empathises with their pining to return and assured them that all Kashmiri Muslims want them to come back and live together as before, as Kashmir belongs to them as much as it does to those who did not leave.

“He assured them of all help and assistance in there suggestion which he said he found sincere and sensible. He said he will help in building a consensus around it among all segments of people and will try to bring others on board,” the spokesperson said.

At the end of the meeting, it was decided that members of the delegation will stay in touch with the Mirwaiz and work on the idea to concretise it and take it forward, the spokesperson said.

Probe against corruption, nepotism in JK Bank a better late than never step : Tarigami

0

Srinagar, Jun 11 : CPI (M) senior leader and former MLA Kulgam, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Tuesday said probe against corruption, nepotism and favouritism in Jammu and Kashmir Bank by the government is a better late than never step and “we had been maintaining from last several years that fraudulent recruitments exercises were going on in the Bank and huge loans were sanctioned to the kith and kin of influential persons in violation of laid down norms.”

“We had been demanding transparency in the functioning of the Bank and that is why we demanded that it should be brought under the ambit of legislature and Right to Information Act (RTI). Time and again we were saying it on the floor of the Assembly, but unfortunately the successive governments didn’t allow it to happen,” Tarigami said in a statement issued .

He said if there was nothing to hide, the functioning of the Bank must have been put in the public domain. “The argument by some vested interests that due to the action against those involved in fraudulent recruitments and financial transactions, the Bank will collapse is hilarious. Keeping every wrongdoing in the Bank under the carpet is in the interests of vested interests and not the common people,” he added.

Tarigami said the ambit of the present probe should not be limited to last three or four years only, but it should be widened and if any wrongdoings happened in the previous governments that too should be probed, and responsibility fixed.

“The Bank will strengthen only when there is transparency. The credibility of the Bank in the public eye will increase when there is transparency and favouritism, nepotism and corruption is curbed. People are being misled on the question of eroding autonomy to the Bank by bringing it under the ambit of RTI and legislature. The fact is it will strengthen the premier financial institution of the state as transparency brings accountability,” he added.

“We hope the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) will take the probe to its logical conclusion and all those found guilty of wrongdoings are punished. We also hope that the probe will be time-bound, and all the investigations are put in the public domain. Also giving regional colour to administrative changes is wrong and no politics should be played over it. J&K Bank is the collective asset of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh,” he said.

The selection process of appointing a new chairman and MD must be carried out in transparent manner so that the new management is competent, professional and honest to provide all requisite services to the people and business community of the state, he added.
