Army Pays Tribute To Slain Soldier Sepoy Sandeep

Srinagar, May 16 : Army On Thursday paid tributes to Late Sep Sandeep who died during counter militant operation in a gunfight at Delipora of Pulwama District.

Three militants have also been killed in the operation, the spokesman said.

“In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lt Gen KJS Dhillon, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks paid homage to the martyr on behalf of a proud nation. In a show of solidarity, representatives from other security agencies also joined in to pay their last respects to the slain,” army’s defence ministry spokesman said in a statement. 

Late Sep Sandeep, sustained bullet injuries during a fierce operation at Village Delipura of Pulwama District. He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries, the spokesman said.

Sep Sandeep(28) had joined the Army in 2012. He belonged to Village Behlba of Maham Tehsil in District Rohtak, Haryana and is survived by his wife.

The mortal remains of the Sandeep was taken for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours, the spokesman said.

In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family of the martyr and remains committed to their dignity and well being, the spokesman added.

Doda, May 16 : The alleged ‘cow vigilantes’ killed a middle-aged man overnight, triggering off massive protests and outrage in Bhadarwah town of Doda district on Thursday.

The authorities imposed curfew and called out the army to control the situation even as police rounded up eight suspected persons in connection with the murder and assured to bring the guilty to book.  

Reports said a group of three persons were heading towards their native Mohalla Qilla area of Bhaderwah along with their cattle when they were fired upon at 2 a.m. by alleged cow vigilantes near Nalthi village, leading to the on the spot killing of Nayeem Ahmad Shah. Two of his associates managed to escape with minor injuries.

Soon after the news spread in the area, hundreds of people took to streets and staged massive protests, seeking stern punishment against the killers and those at whose behest such acts are done. “This is not an act in isolation but a well thought out conspiracy and all those behind the heinous act need to be unmasked by police so as to prevent such incidents in future,” a local, who was part of the protests, told GNS.          

Reports said that the protestors pelted stones on police station, demanding that those behind the killing should be handed over to them.

They said police fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesters, which further infuriated them following which they vandalized the parked vehicles by smashing their windowpanes. The protesters also torched two auto rickshaws and some motorcycles at Seri Bazaar, Takia Chowk and Pasri Bus Stand, they said.

“This is a nothing but a cold-blooded murder which has been carried out on the behest of the goons of BJP, RSS and Shiv Sena, who are hell-bent to polarize the situation here. If the kingpins are not booked immediately, this will have very dangerous consequences and for that only administration with Modi’s agenda will be responsible,” said Pervaiz Ahmed Sheikh, President Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhadarwah, while issuing a shutdown call against the incident.

Reports said that deputy Commissioner Doda, SSP and Commander 4 Sector RR Brig N.J.Singh are camping at Bhadarwah to assess the situation.

A police officer told GNS that case under FIR no. 64/2019 under 302, 307 RPC and 3/25 and 7/27 Arms Act have been registered and investigation taken up.

When contacted SP Bhaderwah Raj Singh Gouria told GNS that 8 suspects persons have been detained in connection with the murder and further investigations are underway.

“Whosoever responsible for the murder will be brought to book,” he added.  (GNS)

Srinagar, May 16 : Three militants have been killed and an army soldier was injured in an encounter with government forces at Handew area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday.

The encounter broke out after a joint team of army’s 44 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search operations this afternoon at Handew village.

A police officer said that three militants were killed in the gunfight and an army soldier sustained bullet injuries during the operation.

The injured soldier was taken to nearby army’s health facility for treatment where from he was shifted to army’s 92 base hospital Badamibagh Srinagar.

The officer said that the bodies of the slain militants have been recovered along with arms and ammunition.

The officer identified the slain as Shakeel Ahmad Dar alias Abu Wasif son of Abdul Gani Dar of Tukroo, Shopian, Shakir Ahmad Paul alias Owais Amin Baie son of Abdul Ganie Paul of Molu Dangerpora and Yawar Mushtaq alias Khalid Bhai son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar of Bandpoh Thokerpora Shopian. The slain trio was affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, the officer said.

He said that the slain trios were involved in number of attacks in parts of South Kashmir.

After conducting all legal formalities, the bodies of the slain were later handed over to their respective families for last rites, the officer said.

Following the gunfight, youth took to streets and pelted stones on forces. The police and paramilitary forces used tear smoke shells to disperse them.  (GNS)

Srinagar, May 16: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti Thursday expressed grief and sorrow over the death of 23-year-old Sumbal youth, terming his killing as ‘tragic and highly condemnable’.

In a statement issued, Mehbooba expressed solidarity with the family of Arshid Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Chanabal Pattan. Arshid breathed his last at SKIMS where he was admitted for specialized treatment after being shifted from JVC Bemina.

Asking the government to speed-up the probe in Bandipora case, Mehbooba said that it is the only way to clear any misgivings in peoples’ minds and restore normalcy.

She also appealed people not to go adrift at any cost and do not allow divisive elements to succeed in their nefarious plans to create animosity between people on sectarian and communal lines.

Meanwhile, PDP president also expressed grief over the demise of Irfan Hamed Sheikh of Zainapora, Shopian. On May 8, unknown gunmen barged inside the chemist shop and fired upon the Irfan Ahmad and Muzafar Ahmad. In the incident, the duo suffered critical injuries. Irfan succumbed to his injuries last night.

Mehbooba prayed for the departed soul and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family members at this hour of great loss.

Mass copying: Superintendent, his deputy suspended pending inquiry

Jammu, May 16 : A Superintendent of an examination centre and his deputy have been placed under suspension by Directorate Education Jammu amid allegations of allowing mass copying in Mahore area of Reasi district.
“Pending enquiry into the conduct in terms of Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, Master Sharief-Ud-Din (Superintendent) and teacher Ashiq Ahmad (Deputy Superintendent) of 10th Exam center No. 5903 High School Jamslan, Zone Mahore are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect,” reads an order issued by the DSEJ, Anuradha Gupta.
“During the period of suspension, they shall remain attached with Chief Education Office Reasi,” the order added, a copy of which lies with GNS.
The order followed surfacing of a video and photographs, showing mass copying by students of 10th class in Bi-annual Science paper which was held on May 11 in the examination centre.In the video, the youth in scattered groups are seen helping the examinees with the chits from outside the examination centre.
Locals of the area also approached the CEO with a written complaint against the staff including Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent for allowing mass copying.
They alleged that the staff was allowing the mass copying every year against hefty bribes.
The video and pictures in possession with GNS showed the staff on exam duty supplying examination related material to nearly 30 candidates.
The locals of the area had urged Governor-led administration to look into the matter and take strict action against the staff involved in the mass copying practice. (GNS)

Srinagar, May 16 : An encounter was broke out between militants and goverment forces in Kandi forests of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday morning.

Reports reaching GNS said that a joint team of army’s 47 RR, 28 RR and SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation at Portel Nad and Razdan Nad – upper reaches of Kandi connecting Lolab forests.

Reports said that there was heavy firing in the forests while the joint team launched searches in the area.

An army officer said that the operation was launched in the woods following intelligence inputs about the movement of suspected militants in the area.

He said that the contact was established soon after the forces challenged the movement of the group of militants in the forests.

Srinagar, May 16 : Three militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad, soldier and a civilian were killed and three persons including two armymen were injured in an encounter with militants in Dalipora area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir on Thursday.

A police officer said that in the initial phase of encounter three soldiers and two brothers Mohd Younis Dar and Rayees Ahmad Dar sons of Jalal Ud Din Dar sustained injuries.

While Rayees died on the spot, his brother Younis was immediately taken to nearby hospital where from he was referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment, the officer said.

The officer said that the soldiers were airlifted to army’s 92 base hospital Badamibagh Srinagar where one of them namely Sandeep Kumar succumbed to injuries.

He identified the injured soldiers as Sepoy Arunesh GSW and Sepoy Ravindar GSW.

During the course of gunfight all the three militants were killed and their bodies along with as many weapons and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the site, he said.

The officer identified the slain militants as Naseer Pandith of Karmibad Pulwama, Umar Mir of Bethipora Shopian and Khalid Bhai from Pakistan. The slain trio were affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit.

The officer said that Khalid was active since last eight years in Kashmir and termed his killing as a major success.

Khalid, the top commander of the JeM outfit was wanted in the 2017 fidayeen attack on a CRPF camp in Lethpora that left five paramilitary personnel dead.

He said that Khalid was mastermind of the attack.

The officer said that the encounter started after militants beleived to be three in number, fired upon a joint team of police and army while a cordon-and-search operation was going on in the Dalipora village.

The cordon was launched after credible inputs about the presence of the militants.

The authorities have also imposed curfew in the town following clashes.

Meanwhile, the internet services have also been suspended in the southern district. (GNS)

Srinagar, May 16: Three militants were killed in a fierce encounter which broke out in pre-dawn at Dalipora area of South Kashmir in Pulwama on Thursday.

A senior police officer confirmed to news agency about killing of three militants and their body has been recovered too, however the identity of the militants is yet to be ascertained.

As per the sources fourth body has been also recovered from encounter site which is yet to be identified whether it’s a militant or a civilian.

Meanwhile massive clashes were going on till this report was being filed.

Earlier a civilian and three armymen were also injured in initial exchange of firing who were shifted to nearby hospital, later one army soldier succumbed to his injury at 92 Base hospital. (GNS)
