Phase 5th Panchayat polls: JRL calls for shutdown in poll bond areas

Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik have asked people to observe a complete protest shutdown in Langate, Wavoora, Sogam, Aloosa, Zainyeer, Sherabad Khore, Lalpora, Sherpathri, Khag, S.K. Pora, Litter, Tral, K-Ullar, Ramnagri, Frisal, Behibagh, K.Pora, D. Pora areas going to polls in the 5th phase of panchayat elections thrust on them by the authoritarian state.

JRL asked people to demonstrate their total rejection and disregard of this futile exercise by staying away and boycotting it completely.

Budgam Encounter: LeT operational commander Naveed Jatt among slain

LeT operational commander Naveed Jatt among two militants killed in a gunfight at Chatergam area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday.

A police spokesman said that Naveed Jatt along with his associate were killed in the gunfight at Chatergam.

“Among the two militants killed, one is identified as Naveed Jatt alias Hanzallah affiliated with militant outfit LeT,” the spokesman said.

Earlier a police officer said that the encounter broke out after receiving credible inputs about the presence the militant group .

Follwing the gunfight, youth took to streets near the encounter site and areas adjoining to it.

The youths pelted stones on forces. The police and paramilitary forces used smoke shells, pellets and some live ammunition resulting in injuries to three persons.

All the injured were taken to nearby hospital where from two bullet wounded refered to SMHS for advanced treatment.

Budgam Gunfight: Two militants killed, three Armymen injured

Two militants were killed and three arymen injured after a gunfight broke out between militants and goverment forces in Chatergam area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday early morning.

Reports reaching GNS said that two militants and three Armymen were injured after a joint team of army’s 50RR, CRPF and SOG cordoned off Chatergam.

A senior Police official confirmed to GNS that two militants were killed and three armymen injured after having credible input about presence of some militants in the area.

However officer said that the identity of the slain militants are yet to be ascertained.

Gunfight rages in Central Kashmir’s Budgam

A gunfight broke out between militants and goverment forces in Chatergam area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday early morning.

Reports reaching GNS said that a joint team of army’s 50RR, CRPF and SOG cordoned off Chatergam.

While the forces intensified searches towards suspected house the hiding militants fired upon goverment forces triggering an gunfight.

A senior Police official confirmed to GNS that contact has been established with the hiding militants after having credible input about presence of some militants in the area.

As per sources two to three militants are believed to be trapped.

As this report was filed intermittent firing was going on.

Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik on Tuesday claimed that if he would have taken the opinion of the Central Government on Government formation in Jammu and Kashmir the Peoples’ Conference Chairman Sajad Lone would have become chief minister of the state but I dissolved assembly keeping in view apprehsions of horse trading .

Addressing students at Gwalior University he said “I want to reiterate it that I would have been compelled to form the government of Sajad Lone had I looked up to New Delhi but I didn’t want to go down in the history as a dishonest man,”.

Malik said, he feared that horse-trading might have taken place to form the government and that it could have led to “killings and chaos in Kashmir.”

The governor, however, claimed that both PDP and Sajad had ‘no numbers’ to form the government as nobody among them came forward with their numbers.

Defending his decision to annul the assembly, Malik said that he received congratulatory messages praising him.

During his speech at the pre-convocation academic conclave at ITM University, Malik also said there is no possibility of autonomy, freedom or merger with Pakistan in Kashmir.
He said that the Kashmir issue is there because of the false dreams shown by the politicians for last fifty years.

“Nobody including mainstream political parties or Hurriyat or Pakistan can resolve the Kashmir issue but the youth in the Valley only can resolve the Kashmir issue,” he said.

Two Army JCOs injured in Poonch land mine blast

Two Junior Commissioned officers (JCOs) of army were injured in a land mine blast along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mankote sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

Reports reaching GNS said that the JCOs Dhareej Kumar and Rajendhar Singh of 5 Mahar Regiment were injured when they accidentally stepped over a mine while patrolling along LoC in Mankote sector.

Both have suffered injuries in the incident and were evacuated to army hospital Rajouri for treatment.

Police post Incharge Mankote, Abdual Karim confirmed the incident.

The officer said that the a case has been registered and further investigations taken up.

Kulgam gunfight: Two slain militants identified

The two militants killed in a gunfight with government forces at Redwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday have been identified.

The slain militants are Ajaz Ahmad Makroo son of late Ghulam Rasool Makroo resident of Qaimoh and Waris Ahmad Malik son of Bashir Ahmad resident of Arwani.

Police spokesman said, as per records, they were affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toia outfit and were involved in several attacks.

Ajaz Makroo was a close associate of militant commanders Naveed Jat and Azad Ahmad Malik alias Dada. Dada was among six militants killed in an encounter in Anantnag few days ago.

Former SSP Riyaz Bedar joins NC in presence of Omar, party’s top leaders

Former SSP Riyaz Bedar on Tuesday joined National Conference (NC) in presence of party vice president Omar Abdullah and other top NC leaders at party headquarters Nawai-Subuh Srinagar.

Reports said Riyaz Bedar was accorded a warm welcome by party’s vice president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in presence of top party leaders.

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), NC District President Baramulla Javid Ahmad Dar said, “keeping in view the exemplary service track record of Riyaz Bedar, party will be benefited by his experience in public service. Omar Abdullah also lauded the services of Riyaz Bedar while welcoming him into the party fold.”

Riyaz Bedar belongs from Pattan township of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and is likely to take on PDP rebel and former minister Imran Raza Ansari from the Pattan constituency of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Militant killed in Tral Encounter

A militant was killed after a gunfight broke out between militants and goverment forces in Reshipora area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday morning.

Reports reaching GNS said that a militant was killed after a joint team of army’s 42RR, 180 BN CRPF and SOG cordoned off Reshipora.

A police officer confirmed GNS that one militant was killed whose identity is yet to be ascertained.

As per the sources the slain militant is believed to be members of Zakir Musa led group Ansar Ul Ghazwatul Hind.

Kulgam gunfight: Two Militants, Armyman killed and two CRPF men injured

Srinagar: Two militants, a armyman were killed while as two CRPF men were injured after a Nocturnal gunfight raged between militants and goverment forces in Redwani area of Qaimoh in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.

Reports reaching GNS said that two militants and a armyman were killed after a joint team of army’s 1RR, CRPF and SOG cordoned off Redwani.

A senior Police official also confirmed to GNS that two militants have been killed.

The officer further said that militants fired UBGL outside encounter site area towards CRPF in which two CRPF men were injured who were shifted to nearby hospital for specialised treatment.

However officer said that identity of the slain militants are yet to be ascertained.

The slain aryman has been identified as Prakash Yadav.
