SAMEER AHMAD

PAHALGAM, April 22: In a heart-wrenching account that surfaced online, a woman whose husband was among those shot in the recent militant attack at Baisaran, Pahalgam, has described the terrifying moments when violence shattered their peaceful afternoon.

A video clip widely circulated on social media shows the woman emotionally recounting the incident that unfolded on Tuesday in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. “We were eating when one person shot my husband,” she says through sobs, still in shock from witnessing the brutal killing. “We were just having fun… and then he shot my husband,” she repeats, reliving the horror.

The victims, reportedly tourists, were enjoying a visit to the picturesque meadow of Baisaran in the popular tourist town of Pahalgam when they were attacked by a gunman. The woman was among several people present during the shooting and became an eyewitness to her husband’s death.

Another woman, visibly distressed in the same video, is seen kneeling beside a bloodied man lying on the ground. She cries for help: “Please save my husband,” her voice trembling as she pleads with onlookers and the man recording the video.

The chaotic aftermath of the attack is also captured in the footage, with two motionless bodies seen lying on the ground and others screaming for help. One woman, tending to a severely injured man, is heard begging, “Sir, please, please, please ask for help,” her desperation echoing the fear that gripped the area.

Security agencies have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the attackers. The tragic incident has sparked outrage and deep sorrow across the Valley, especially as it comes during a time when the region is witnessing a resurgence of tourist footfall.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, but the horrifying visuals and testimonies continue to circulate, painting a grim picture of the trauma endured by those who only came seeking joy amidst the serene landscapes of Kashmir.
