As the schools remain closed due to the seemingly unending Covid-19 pandemic across J&K, the people associated with the private educational institutions have suffered immensely.
The reports reaching Kashmir Despatch have unravelled that many schools have kept a year’s salary with held while the ill-fated school teachers and non-teaching staff are being pushed from pillar to post.
There is a stark disparity met by the private teachers in Kashmir in comparison to those who work in government institutions. Most of these schools now and then raise their demands through multiple school associations but it’s regrettable that the welfare of these adroit and dedicated teachers is never taken into consideration.
Besides being the builders of the nation, these teachers also contribute for the welfare of school owners who earn hefty profits out of these institutions.
However, the pay scale and other perks given to these teachers in return are haplessly meagre and minuscule. The minimum wages scale set by the labour department is scarcely followed by these institutions and only a handful deliver salaries through bank accounts in order to evade any kind of scrutiny.
It’s lamentable that our society has been lately growing cold towards such less-voiced sections who are not organised under any specific umbrella association due to which their genuine pleas go unnoticed.
This needs to be understood by every such private school owner, who has been reluctant to give these teachers their due share, that in the time of prosperity you have been making ten-fold profit from the services delivered by such dedicated members of your staff and now in adversity have a moral responsibility to look after their pleas. These teachers have placed all their hopes in the institution they have tirelessly served until now. So, kindly do stay away from the infection, but try not lose your humanity.
