Baramulla, April 18: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurinder Singh Pal stated that individuals involved in drug-related activities will face even stricter measures.

Addressing the media during a get-together gathering, SSP Pal remarked that Pakistan is actively facilitating the drug trade across the border and supporting those involved in it. He emphasized that such activities will not be tolerated and that we will not permit individuals to push drugs into our region. He stated that, in addition to ongoing efforts, stricter actions will be implemented to confront this issue more forcefully.

He mentioned that many individuals currently in Pakistan have relatives involved in drug trafficking who are pushing drugs into our area.

According to him, there are approximately 1,600 families in the Baramulla district, each with at least one relative who has crossed over to Pakistan. “We are monitoring those 1,600 families. Around 100 families are actively involved, and we have identified five families of particular concern; we are keeping an eye on the rest.”

He also provided an update on police developments in drug-related cases, stating that in 2024, 146 cases were registered, resulting in the arrest of 203 individuals.

The SSP noted that 46 persons have been placed under preventive detention under the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act).

He mentioned that properties worth ₹4.5 crore have been attached, and 24 vehicles have been seized.

The officer stated that in 2025, to date, 33 individuals have been arrested, and 39 kingpins have been identified. Most of them are currently in custody, while efforts continue to track down the others.

He also shared that around 360 persons were treated in 2024 at the Police Drug De-addiction Centre.

The top officer also said that Baramulla police want a two-way communication between the police and the public so that the margin of error remains zero.

He further stated that the public can reach out to us directly, and we will ensure that the correct measures are undertaken.
