SRINAGAR, Dec 18: In a significant development in the fight against drug trafficking, the Srinagar Police, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Maharaj Gunj, have attached movable assets worth ₹20 lakh belonging to two accused involved in illicit drug trade. The action was taken during the investigation of cases registered under FIR Nos. 48/2024 and 51/2024 under Sections 8/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The accused, identified as Altaf Ahmad Shah, also known as Pacha, son of Ghulam Hassan Shah, a resident of Dalal Mohalla, and Rakib Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Salam Dar, a resident of Rajouri Kadal, have been under investigation for their involvement in the illegal drug trade. Acting under Section 68F of the NDPS Act, police attached the proceeds of illicit drug activities in the form of movable assets belonging to the duo.

The assets, valued at approximately ₹20 lakh, include items acquired through the proceeds of drug trafficking. This marks a significant step in dismantling the financial network supporting drug trade in the region.

Local residents have lauded the proactive efforts of Police Station Maharaj Gunj in combating the menace of drug trafficking. Many have expressed relief and appreciation for the action, stating that such measures will help curb the rising drug problem in the area.

A senior police official reiterated their commitment to taking stringent action against individuals involved in the drug trade. “This attachment of assets is a clear message to those indulging in illegal activities that their proceeds will not go unchecked. The police are working tirelessly to ensure a drug-free society,” the official stated.

The investigation into the cases continues, and more actions are expected as part of the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking in the region.

This development comes as part of a broader campaign by law enforcement authorities to disrupt the supply chains of narcotics and to penalize those who benefit financially from such illicit activities. Residents have urged authorities to continue such efforts to safeguard the youth and uphold law and order in the area.
