Jammi, April 10: Police on Thursday said that in a major crackdown on absconders, it on Thursday has attached immovable property of a man who had fled to Pakistan/PoJK.
In a handout to Kashmir Despatch, the police said that it has attached immovable property belonging to proclaimed offender Mohd Bashir, son of Ghulam Din, a resident of Bagyal Dara in Tehsil Haveli, District Poonch. The property, measuring 6 Kanal, was attached under Section 88 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), following the directions of the Hon’ble Court.
According to police spokesman, the Bashir is an accused in FIR No. 70/2000 registered at Police Station Poonch under Sections 2/3 of the Egress and Internal Movement (Control) Ordinance (E&IMCO). According to police sources, he had absconded to Pakistan/PoJK and was subsequently declared a proclaimed offender.
Despite continuous efforts by the police to nab the accused, he remained untraceable. Acting on court orders, the Poonch Police, in collaboration with local revenue authorities, moved to attach his immovable property as part of legal proceedings, he said.
“This action highlights our commitment to ensuring that no offender, regardless of their location, escapes the reach of law,” a senior police official stated. Authorities have reaffirmed that efforts to trace and apprehend Bashir are still underway, he said.
The police have urged the public to cooperate and report any information that may assist in bringing the absconder to justice, reads the statement.
