Srinagar, Oct 07 : As the official results of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections are scheduled to be announced tomorrow, political parties across the Union Territory are gearing up for celebratory events, confident in their expected outcomes.
Despite the pending final results, a festive atmosphere is already evident throughout the Union Territory.
The National Conference (NC), is hopeful of winning a substantial number of seats.
“We are optimistic about our victory and will definitely celebrate the victory,” a senior NC leader, who preferred to remain anonymous, said.
Another NC worker from Srinagar shared the same confidence, stating, “We are confident that Omar Abdullah and our other candidates will emerge victorious, and we are planning even bigger celebrations.
Likewise, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is equally confident in its success.
A senior BJP leader said, “We expect to win the majority of seats and are preparing for grand celebrations, however, depending on the final results.”
On the other hand, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has adopted a more cautious stance, preferring to wait until the results are officially declared.
“We are confident in the victory of our candidates, including Iltija Mufti, but we will wait for the results before making any celebration plans,” said a senior PDP leader.
Meanwhile, Congress has already begun preparations for victory celebrations, expressing optimism about their candidates, including party chief Tariq Hameed Qara.
“We are hopeful about our chances and plan to celebrate at our headquarters once the results are announced,” said a Congress leader.
Parties such as the Apni Party, People’s Conference, and AIP have remained silent on their plans, choosing to wait for the final results. However, anticipation remains high among other political camps.
Firecracker vendors across Jammu and Kashmir have also sensed the celebratory mood, stocking up in anticipation of large-scale events. A local vendor remarked, “I’ve stocked around 100 boxes of firecrackers worth ₹20,000, expecting huge celebrations tomorrow.”
Officials have assured that tight security measures have been put in place at all counting centers.
A senior government official said, “We have set up a three-tier security cordon around the counting centers. The first layer will be 100 meters from the premises, followed by security personnel near the buildings and inside the counting halls.”
These measures are designed to ensure the safe and smooth counting of votes for the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, where 873 candidates are vying for seats.
Voting took place in three phases—on September 18, 25, and October 1—with a strong voter turnout of 63.88%, reflecting the importance of the election for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. (KINS)
