The government of Jammu and Kashmir had claimed proper arrangements ahead of Ramadan. Not only those claims have been tossed by the erratic power supplies, skyrocketed prices of essential edible items but the problems caused to the people on account of poor implementation of food standards act on ground has exposed the administration to the hilt.
Ramadan is a month wherein people need a hassle free electric supply at peak hours of Iftar and Sehri . but people are witnessing major outages on these two important times since the beginning of this holy month. While the argument of PDCL has some weight that people are using electricity like they used to do during peak of winter because of torrential rains and biting cold but wasn’t this consumption anticipated by the concerned department.
As usual the PDCL can go for purchase of additional power supplies from the northern grid to address its demand and supply position especially in Kashmir valley. The government must take the requisite steps to address this crisi like situation if it is really serious in providing some sigh of relief to the public during this blessed month.
Similarly, the government must press into service its various departments that are concerned with implementation of food safety and standards act on ground. The quality of the food items like dates, milk, curd, and other edibles must be checked for their quality. Government should also direct all its district administrations to have frequent market checkings so as to control the undue price rise.
The food department also needs to hold the butchers accountable for deviating from the government rate lists provided to them recently. All such measures need to be taken in order to provide a feel of governance on the grounds.
