SRINAGAR, Nov 16: Joint Director of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) Kashmir, Mohammad Aslam on Saturday emphasized the critical need for professionalism and accuracy in journalism while addressing a gathering on National Press Day.

Observed under the theme “Changing Nature of Press,” the event highlighted the growing role of media and the challenges posed by the evolving information landscape.

Speaking on the occasion, Aslam underscored that as the scope of journalism continues to expand, the importance of authentic and accurate reporting becomes paramount. “With the press reaching new horizons, the information shared must not only be accurate but also responsible,” he stated.

He highlighted the DIPR’s commitment to fostering professionalism in journalism, revealing that policies are being developed to ensure that authenticity remains a cornerstone of media practices. “We are working diligently to uphold accuracy and authenticity in journalism, ensuring that these principles guide all journalistic efforts,” Aslam said.

Stressing the ethical dimension of the profession, he called for news content to remain free from bias or misinformation. “The product we deliver as information must be pure and unadulterated, ensuring trustworthiness for all consumers,” he remarked.

Acknowledging the influence of social media in the contemporary era, Aslam urged for responsible use of the platform. He emphasized that content shared online must align with cultural values and promote the ethos of accuracy. “In today’s digital age, promoting our culture and values through credible information is vital,” he added.

National Press Day serves as a reminder of the significant responsibility journalists hold in shaping public opinion and fostering informed societies. Aslam’s remarks reinforced the need for a press that values professionalism, ethics, and accuracy, ensuring it continues to be a pillar of democracy and a trusted source of information.

The DIPR’s initiatives aim to nurture these values among journalists, ensuring that as the nature of the press evolves, it upholds the principles that form the backbone of credible journalism.
