Bandipora Apr 25:- The Forest protection personnels recovered a 9.2″ long punt gun from Kulhama village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, following a tip-off.
As per the Forest Protection officials, the anti-poaching squad acted following a tip-off from a source and recovered a 9 feet long paint gun from Wular lake.
“The squad received a tip off about illegal hunting in Wular lake ,acting on specific information we recovered a 9 feet long punt gun this morning”,Syed Aijaz Ahmad,deputy director forest protection force Bandipora.
The Punt gun as per the officials is an extremely long shotgun that is used to silently sneak and hunt down different types of birds in wetlands. In the past, departments have seized several such guns from Wular Lake due to rampant poaching and illegal trade of the migratory birds.
The official said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation was going on.
He further said that people who have guns should immediately deposit their guns otherwise they will face action.
“Nine punt guns had been seized this year”,he added.
