Rajouri Woman Claims Innocence, Says Ready To Accept Capital Punishment If Proven Guilty

Date:

SRINAGAR: The Rajouri woman who recently made headlines spoke to the media about her side of the story.

Accused of marrying more than two dozen men, Shaheena claims that all the accusations against her are baseless. “I was married to a man in Rajouri, we have two children together but we were not compatible so he divorced me. And then i started working as a tailor since I have two children to feed,” she said.

She claims that one day she was going to Kashmir to meet her sister who lives there. On the way, she met Mohammad Altaf Mir as he offered her a lift. “Later we got to know each other and he asked me to marry him,” she stated.

She also claimed that she did not sign the Nikkah papers, “How can I marry 32 men from just one district,” she asked while demanding proof in any form. “If it is proven that I have married even thrice, I am ready for capital punishment,” she said while stating, “I do not know any of the men who are protesting except Altaf.”

Shaheena claims that she has married only twice and all the allegations levelled against her are baseless, “I do not know anyone of them. They should prove their allegations with solid proofs,” she added, “I am requesting the authorities to serve justice and punish the guilty one.”

She also accused her ex-husband Altaf from Budgam of all the conspiracy.

The incident made it to the headlines when several men from different villages of the Budgam District took to Press Colony, Srinagar to register their protest against the woman, demanding her immediate arrest. (Agencies)
