Renowned Scholar Prof Nazir Ahmad Gilkar Passes Away, Leaves Behind a Legacy of Knowledge

SRINAGAR, Dec 27: In a deeply sorrowful announcement, Prof (Dr.) Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, a revered academician, former College Principal, and former Controller of Examinations at the Central University of Kashmir, passed away, leaving a profound void in the academic community.

Expressing heartfelt condolences, Prof Mohammad Ismail, former Principal of Government Degree College, Baramulla, highlighted Prof Gilkar’s towering contributions to academia and his remarkable personal virtues. “In his demise, we have lost a noble soul, an illustrious teacher, and an eminent scholar,” he stated.

Prof Ismail recalled his first interaction with Prof Gilkar during the college teacher elections at S.P. College, Srinagar, in 1996. “I was captivated by his commanding presence, worldly knowledge, and affectionate nature,” he reminisced, emphasizing the profound impact Prof Gilkar had on colleagues and students alike.

A prolific academic, Prof Gilkar co-authored several articles on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and other significant topics, showcasing his unwavering commitment to the advancement of education. His selflessness and humility were evident, as he often refused to take credit for his pivotal role in collaborative works.

“Dr. Gilkar was a veteran teacher who worked with utmost sincerity and devotion. He was a thoughtful person with an ocean of knowledge, shaping his students and colleagues into admirable personalities,” Prof Ismail added.

Prof Gilkar is survived by his family, including his daughters Ms. Shubana Nazir Gilkar and Miss Asma Nazir Gilkar. Prof Ismail extended his condolences to the bereaved family, expressing regret at not being able to visit them in person. He prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and strength for the family to bear this irreparable loss.

The demise of Prof Nazir Ahmad Gilkar marks the end of an era for the academic fraternity, which will forever cherish his legacy as a teacher, scholar, and guide.
