Resolving Kashmir will bring peace in South Asia: Geelani

Srinagar, Jan 8:  Paying rich tributes to a foreign militant, who was killed in Kakpora, Pulwama encounter, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani reiterated that the youth of Kashmir have opted gun “as a reaction to the Indian military and forcible occupation” of Jammu and Kashmir.

Terming Kashmir as a bone of contention between the two nuclear powers of the subcontinent, Hurriyat (G) chairman in a statement issued , regretted that “the stubborn attitude of India regarding this globally accepted political dispute and dealing with it only militarily has created death and destruction in whole state and peace and harmony of whole region is threatened”.

He said that with the resolution of this issue, a new era of peace, stability and development will prevail not only in Jammu and Kashmir but in whole South Asia.

Meanwhile, Geelani expressed shock over the demise of senior Jamaat-e-Islami leader and a well known social activist and his long time associate AlhajAbdul Raheem Langoo of Sopore.

Recalling association with him, Hurriyat (G) chairman said that he was a noble soul, an affectionate human being, a caring citizen, a religious and literary legend and an inspirational freedom lover.

Geelani said that he was first to reach at the site of tragedy to anybody, irrespective of party affiliation or regional likings, which had earned him a great respect and love among the people.

The pro-freedom leader said he “couldn’t control his emotions while remembering his (Langoos’) hardships and torture by Indian forces and local police”. Langoo was imprisoned several times for raising his voice against the rights violations particularly in Sopore, he said.

“Every Soporian will miss a personality like him for a long time and the vacuum created by his demise is hard to be filled,” Hurriyat (G) chairman said and prayed for peace to the departed soul and courage to the family to bear the tragic loss.

On the directions of Geelani, his two sons Dr Naiem Geelani and Dr Naseem Geelani and his son-in-law Syed Zahoor-ul-Haq Geelani participated in the funeral procession of the deceased, the statement said.

Geelani also expressed grief over the death of the brother of Siraj Makhdoomi of Tujar Sopore and prayed for his eternal peace and courage to the bereaved family to bear this tragic loss.
