Shopian,May 27: The Shopian and Pulwama Journalists Guild has strongly condemned the assault and thrashing of two journalist by police in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Umer Rashid, a senior journalist with The Global News Service and Junaid Gulzar with Kashmir Essence said that they were assaulted by police at Newa ( Pulwama) while coming from Srinagar.
“We were having valid movement passes and showed our identity caads also but the cops start abusing and thrashing both of us without letting us know the reason behind beating us,”Umer said.
Spokesman SPWJG has strongly condemned the thrashing incident and said “It is an assault on freedom of press journalists report truth. But in conflict truth is the first casualty. Earlier, police and security forces have beaten up journalists as per their will. And without any action against those police men who thrash and detain journalists,” the spokesperson in a statement said.
The journalists demanded a fair probe into the thrashing of their colleagues and action againt the police men who assaulted them.
