Six days on, therapy machine continues to remain defunct at SKIMS

Srinagar, Aug 11: The cancer patients, who are undergoing therapy at SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) here, have faced immense hardships as the only machine at the institute is lying defunct from last six days.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the cancer patients said that from last six days, they are being told that the machine is lying defunct.

“The therapy post-surgery is the only medicine available with me for cure. However, the machine meant for the therapy has been lying defunct from last six days,” Sajad Ahmad, a patient from Soura area of Srinagar said.

He added that post-surgery, he has to undergo therapy every day, saying that he has to undergo 31 therapy and only 11 are left now, but the treatment has got delayed due to the defunct machine.

“As therapy is the only treatment for cancer patients, the machine should have been repaired in a short span of time,” the cancer patient said, adding that further delay in getting the treatment can deteriorate the health of patients.

They appealed to the SKIMS administration to look into the matter at an earliest and ensure that the machine is repaired at short notice.

Meanwhile, Public Relation Officer (PRO) SKIMS, Kulsooma when contacted said that the Radiology machine has developed some technical snag and the administration has informed the company, who has installed it at the institute.

“We are on it and it will be repaired as soon as possible,” she said—(KNO)
