Hints at a New Political Front

Sopore, June 20: Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar and National Conference (NC) leader Aga Ruhullah Mehdi stated that society must stand up for reform—only then will politics change. Otherwise, it will continue to degrade.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of an event at Dak Bungalow Sopore, MP Syed Aga Ruhullah said, “The quality of politics we have has deteriorated.”
He remarked, “It makes no difference even if parties change—people will keep switching parties unless the political system itself is transformed. This circus will continue daily. Therefore, I appeal to society; they must stand for reform.”
When asked about the absence of political leaders at the event, Aga Ruhullah responded, “I was invited by the organizers, who are part of civil society. Whether any political party attended or not was irrelevant—this was not a political event. Even if it were my own party, it was their choice not to come. Should I ask them, ‘Did you vote for me or not? Are you with the party or not?’
In response to a question about his NC local leaders not attending the function, Ruhullah said bluntly, “I don’t care.”
Earlier, while addressing a gathering inside the hall, MP Syed Aga Ruhullah stated, “I am looking for people who will walk with me—those who will bring accountability to the system and stand for credibility.”
Though he did not explicitly announce the formation of a new political party, the tone and timing of his statement left little doubt that he was laying the groundwork for an independent political initiative, distinct from the existing party establishment.
Meanwhile, Sopore MLA Irshad Rasool Kar, reacting to the MP’s visit to the constituency, said, “I am just a small party worker. The people have given me a five-year mandate to serve, and I pray to Allah for the strength to fulfill my duties.” He added, “I cannot comment on MP Ruhullah Sahib’s visit to Sopore.”
