BANDIPORA, Dec 5: Despite freezing temperatures, a film crew of 40 members is shooting a south Indian movie on the banks of Asia’s second largest freshwater lake Wular in Zurimanz village of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Speaking with the Kashmir Despatch, the Director of the movie said: “We are very thankful to the locals of the village for cooperating and helping us in different aspects as our most shorts are planned in boats in this lake.”
Various films such as Junglee, Kashmir Ki Kali and Himalay Ki Goud Mein and Haider were filmed in the region’s gorgeous locales to present day.
“This is the first time any south Indian movie is shot on the banks of Wular lake as it has its own attraction for the viewers,” he added.
“We hope more tourists and directors will visit this lake. This will boost the economy of local villagers who live on the banks of the lake. This will also provide employment opportunities to the local youth,” said Ghulam Hassan, a resident of the village.
He said that the locals are very happy as this is the first time when any movie is being shot here. “On the first day of our shoot, the temperature went down to minus 4 degrees Celsius. However, despite the freezing cold, Kashmir is beautiful. I don’t understand why people go to Switzerland and Europe when India has the most beautiful place in the whole world!,” said one of the crew members.
“The people of Kashmir are loving and hardworking too,” he informed, “Shooting in Kashmir was fun. We had the local crew from there who really helped us a lot in pulling through the shoot.”
