Srinagar Braces for Lok Sabha Polls: IGP Kashmir Assures Peaceful and Secure Elections

Srinagar, May 11 : As central Kashmir is all set to vote tomorrow for the Lok Sabha Srinagar parliamentary constituency seat, Inspector General of Police Kashmir V.K. Birdi said that all security arrangements are in place for a smooth election.

Talking to the news agency Kashmir Scroll, IGP said that all security arrangements have been set in place, from polling stations and locations to the distribution center, to ensure a safe and secure environment for the voters across the Srinagar parliamentary seat.

He said that as per the prescribed guidelines from the Election Commission of India, all has been set in place.

IGP said that from the police angle, all arrangements have been made so that people will come in large numbers to cast their votes.

Pertinently, with all arrangements in place, the polling for the 4th phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections is all set to commence tomorrow in the 2-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency (PC).

As per data available with the news agency Kashmir Scroll, a total of 17,47,810 lakh voters have been enrolled in phase IV, including 8,75,938 male and 8,71,808 female voters, besides 64 third gender electors. There are around 11,682 Persons with Disability and 705 persons above the age of 100 years who will also be exercising their franchise.

Around 2,135 polling stations have been set up in the fourth phase across 5 districts of Srinagar, Pulwama, Budgam, Ganderbal, and Shopian (37-Shopian). The election staff, including Presiding Officers, will be stationed in every polling station. In total, more than 85,000 polling staff, including reserves, will be deployed on duty on the polling day.

The communication added that the voting will take place from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, and before that, there will be a mock poll in the polling stations in the presence of the polling agents. Also, the voting will continue even after 6:00 pm if there is still a queue of voters in the Polling Station premises to utilize their right to vote. (KS)
