Sumbal, Dec 09 : The Social Welfare Department Sumbal, In-collabaration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), distributed battery-operated wheelchairs, hearing aids, and crutches to specially-abled individuals from various areas of the Sonawari belt in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday.

Speaking at the event, TSWO Sumbal Fayaz Ahmad Lone stated that the Social Welfare Department, in collaboration with ALIMCO, organized this distribution camp. He noted that ALIMCO, a Chandigarh-based organization, conducted assessment camps in 2023 to select beneficiaries, and today, essential aids and appliances were distributed.

The officer emphasized the department’s commitment to providing support to specially-abled individuals to help them lead meaningful lives and contribute to the nation’s progress.

He added, “I believe that all human beings have something special within them, as well as some weaknesses, including those who are specially-abled. As a society, we must help them focus on their strengths rather than their weaknesses, allowing them to enjoy life just like the rest of us.”

MLA Sonawari Hilal Akbar Lone and SDM Sumbal Murtaza Ahmad were also present at the event.

Pertinently, Social Welfare Department in parts of northern region has taken decisive steps to uplift and empower the lives of specially-abled individuals within the community. Through the distribution of essential aids, including mobility devices and supportive technologies, the department is not only enhancing the quality of life for these individuals but also fostering a sense of inclusion and dignity. This compassionate effort reflects a commitment to break down barriers and create opportunities, allowing those with disabilities to engage more fully in society.
