Sopore, Feb. 06 : Following public outcry and outrage regarding the alleged negligence of doctors at a private hospital in north Kashmir’s Sopore, authorities sealed the operation theatre of the hospital on Thursday.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that a civil department team, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sopore S.A. Raina, sealed the operation theatre of Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital after alarming allegations surfaced that a doctor mistakenly removed a patient’s uterus instead of conducting a scheduled ENT surgery.
Speaking to Kashmir Despatch, ADC Sopore S.A. Raina stated that an unfortunate incident occurred at the private hospital. He explained that, according to the information received, an ear surgery was supposed to take place, but the female doctor who performed the surgery mistakenly removed the patient’s uterus.
ADC said that a thorough investigation into the case is underway, and notices have been issued to all individuals involved in the incident. “In the coming days, we will collect reports from everyone and determine what actions can be taken, as the primary inquiry is still ongoing and a complete investigation has yet to be conducted,” he stated.
ADC indicated that preliminary inquiries and evidence suggest that this operation theatre should not have been operational in the first place, which led to its immediate sealing.
He added, “Our constant effort is to provide the best possible service to the public, but it is unacceptable to provide services that lead to such deception. We will address such cases with strict measures.”
Meanwhile, the Health and Medical Education Department on Thursday suspended two doctors following the incident at Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore.
An order, a copy of which is in the possession of Kashmir Despatch, states, “Pending inquiry into the incident that occurred on 03.02.2025 at Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore, and to ensure a fair and impartial investigation while maintaining the integrity of the healthcare system, the following doctors are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect and shall remain attached to the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu, until further orders.”
The suspended doctors are Dr. Anjum Nazir, Consultant Gynecologist, SDH Sopore, and Dr. Tariq Ahmad Dar, Medical Officer (Diploma in Anesthesia), DH Bandipora.
Furthermore, it is ordered that the aforementioned doctors are prohibited from engaging in any form of private practice throughout Jammu & Kashmir.
The health department has also constituted a committee to further investigate the matter, as stated in the order.
