Srinagar, Feb 12 : Hundreds of people, mostly young boys in their lust for earning huge profits by investing money through some online Apps have ended up losing lakhs of rupees as the apps turned out to be fraud.

People from several parts of Kashmir had registered themselves on the “Shoppers App” and “Rakuten Shop” which were available on various social media sites. For registration they were supposed to share all their details, which they did.

After getting themselves registered, people initially invested small amounts to check the authencity of the Apps.

The online fraudsters, to earn the trust of the users, returned the money to the registered investors along with profits for nearly a month.

However, after a month or so, when people had invested in lakhs, the App went off leaving the investors shocked.

Some of the victims who have been duped by this App told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that initially they were able to withdraw the money as the App terms and conditions promised certain percentage of commission on their money but as soon as they deposited more money they were not able to withdraw.

Mohammad Abdullah, a victim of this online fraud from Kulgam district said he has lost almost 1 lakh 70 thousand through this fraud App. “I request everyone don’t fall in this online scam,” he said.

Another victim from central Kashmir’s Budgam district said that he deposited 5000 after which he tried to withdraw the amount, a message prompted which directed to send the link to another 20 more people. “Till date I have not been able to withdraw.”

When contacted SSP Cyber Cell Kashmir, Tahir Ashraf told KNO that they have not received any complaints in this regard—(KNO)
