Trekker tries to save tourist in Pahalgam drowns

Srinagar, Jun 24 : A tourist guide from Kashmir lost his own life while trying to save the life of a tourist in Pahalgam.

Shakeel, a 25-year-old youth from Gangangeer Ganderbal, a professional trekker lost his life when he jumped in a Nallah to save a drowning tourist. But both were washed away by gushing waters.

His brother Anayat told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that Shakeel was a professional guide for the last many years and there are many instances when his brother saved the lives of others.

But this time, he lost his own life while trying to save a tourist, Dr Mahesh from Uttrakhand.

“People accompanying him told us as after all tourists crossed Nallah, Dr Mahesh and Shakeel were crossing it and as soon as Dr Mahesh slipped, Shakeel jumped and tried to save Mahesh,” he said.

Shakeel’s friends recalled him as friendly and helpful—(KNO)
