NEW DELHI, July 25: Union Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju outlined the key aspects of the 2024-25 Union Budget, emphasizing its strategic vision for fostering a self-reliant (‘atmanirbhar’) and developed (‘viksit’) India.
During a press conference, he stated, that the Union Budget 2024-25 lays a robust foundation for the country’s economic future, with a significant focus on infrastructure, job creation, and support for marginalized communities.
Capital Expenditure and Infrastructure:
Central to the budget is the unprecedented allocation of ₹11.11 lakh crore for capital expenditure. This substantial investment aims to construct world-class infrastructure, propelling India’s economic growth and positioning it competitively on the global stage. The emphasis on infrastructure development is expected to catalyze various sectors, creating a ripple effect across the economy.
Focus on Eastern India and the Northeast:
The budget places a special focus on unlocking the economic potential of eastern India, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh, as well as the Northeast. By directing resources and attention to these regions, the government aims to bridge regional disparities, promote balanced development, and enhance connectivity and industrial growth.
Job Creation and Empowerment:
Recognizing the critical need for job creation, the budget introduces a range of initiatives aimed at empowering women and youth. Through startups, skilling, and training programs, the government seeks to create employment opportunities and foster entrepreneurial spirit. These measures are designed to equip the workforce with the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving economic landscape.
Support for Farmers, Tribals, and Marginalized Groups:
The budget also extends robust support to farmers, tribals, and other marginalized groups, particularly in the Northeast. Shri Rijiju highlighted the unprecedented attention given to tribal communities, underscoring the government’s commitment to inclusive development. Initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, improving living standards, and ensuring equitable access to resources are central to this support.
India’s Global Economic Position:
Shri Rijiju emphasized India’s position as a “bright spot” in the global economy, noting the country’s resilient performance amid global uncertainties. The budget’s forward-looking measures are designed to strengthen this position, driving sustained economic growth and development.
Call for Constructive Debate:
Addressing the political landscape, Shri Rijiju urged opposition parties to engage in meaningful debate and discussion on the budget’s content, rather than resorting to disruptive tactics. He noted that while NDA members have provided constructive feedback, the opposition’s response has largely been political rather than substantive. The minister called for a focus on the budget’s merits and potential impact, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in shaping India’s economic future.
He observed that the 2024-25 Union Budget, with its comprehensive approach and strategic initiatives, aims to chart a course towards a self-reliant and developed India, fostering growth, inclusivity, and resilience in the face of global challenges.
