SRINAGAR, Jan 09: When our surroundings are litter free we have a good health, believes Gamgeen Majeed Narabali who has held many cleanup drives in Kashmir Valley.

His team had cleaned up many hospitals in Kashmir, like Lalded Hospital, SMHS Hospital, Children’s Hospital, and District Pulwama Hospital.

Moreover, he has cleaned many parks including Mughal Gardens, Rishat Garden, Harwan Garden and many more. The message he wants to give the Kashmiri people is to make  your environment clean and has set an example by taking a broom himself and cleaning up all these sites.

He feels it is his duty to the environment and citizens to keep the city free from garbage in order to save people from various diseases and illnesses. He is the Chairman of Social Work Committee of Kashmir that works for the sake of public welfare.

“Our Valley is known as paradise on earth and we must keep it clean and green. Kashmir is also known as the Valley of Saints and Sufis. We should turn it into a disease-free environment by cleaning up the pollution,” Narbali told Kashmir Despatch.

His teams volunteer services in the hospitals, on roads, and in parks has sofar gone unrecognized. Gamgeen’s message is to educate the people of Kashmir about the clean-up drives so people can volunteer to help.

Many doctors in hospitals where Narbali has provided his free services believe that he is a noble social worker and is setting an example for the betterment of the Valley.

One of the doctors wishing not to be named said: “By his help, our hospitals have been cleaned and our patients are appreciative of everyone involved in this cleanliness drive. Social workers are social doctors and they can bring revolution to the humanitarian issue.”

Narbali believes that by cleaning up the roads, hospitals and parks he gets mental satisfaction. “When I clean parks, roads and hospitals where we more often see scattered litter around us, I feel overjoyed. This volunteer service provides me and my team a spiritual satisfaction. Cleanliness is part of our religion and we have been strictly asked by God and Prophet (SAW) to keep ourselves and our surroundings very clean,” he observed.
